M535i for track use

   Hello everyone I�m thinking of converting my old E28 M535i into a track car (don�t want to risk my M5) anyway I�ve got a dogleg box I�m going to fit as its an auto at the moment, while I�ve got the flywheel sitting around I thought about lightening it what I want to know is where and how much material to remove without weakening it, I have access to a lathe at work.
Also any tips on uprating the M30 six would be greatly appreciated cam�s headwork etc
