It would be a start mate, a very welcome start, I cant read sign language, so I guess I'd be ok. Its in the bath at the moment, so all quite down here. Heres a good one for you Killian, you being a man of the world and all that. SHE wants the bathroom lamp removing, and six low voltage halogen spots sunk into the ceiling. So I do all this, at great pain to myself, up in the loft wiring them etc, so all done, she goes for a bath, promptly turns all the lights out and lights half a dozen candles, explain that one !!!!!!!! |

I may be a man of the world but that will never mean that I understand the fairer sex.

What road tax do you pay? Your car doesn't display a tax (or insurance or NCT discs) but it has an Irish plate. (or should I just not go there) |

Ah, you can't see the WCUK road tax disc due to the reflection from the super-clean windscreen... ...though I have come across quite a few WCUK-registered cars in Ireland which are running about with no tax or insurance discs.... |

My explanation of this acronym has been sent by PM to you, as it's unfit to be sitting on the Forum... I think you've got the message now.... Edited by Horsetan |

Killian
Glad to see that you have a proper car at last. I have 4 of them, and I think they are great! Tax over here is a lot cheaper. I could tax around 7 for the price of one in Ireland. They are also great on the track. I use TRX tyres. I've tried all sorts of others, including Yokohamas, but find TRX are the ones for wear and grip. My latest 6 series - 1988 - white with lotus leather, came with two brand new ones in the boot and an original spare. Cost a bit more than yours but you cannot be lucky all of the time. I see the Alpina Wheels, but what is Alpina about the body? |

Ooooh, red rag to a bull, methinks....
...until Gordon Brown wakes up to this...
This is not what I've found in the last 7+ years.... The Avon Turbospeed CR28s are useless in rain, snow, mud... and on tarmac... Edited by Horsetan |

I can't agree with you that TRX's are good howard. IMHO they are the worst tyre i have ever used in every category i care to think of other than some Camac remoulds that i once had on my first car which were just diabolical.

TRXs are suitable for the following categories: 1) the purist, who doesn't mind losing the back end every so often; 2) show/concours use (if you spend your life exhibiting at shows, then you'll not need much else!); 3) people who can't afford imperial-sized alloys at the moment, and are therefore trapped into paying out for non-standard tyres |

Anyway, back to the original topic, it is with deep regret that I will not be buying this motor. Went out in better light and properly equipped (including a BMW specialist [thanks Robert Harrison - see BMW Irish Contacts]) and spent a good while going over the car. Anyway, together, we noticed a lot more than I did in my brief (excited) inspection last Friday. While the car is good overall it will contains too many small patches of rust, has been heavily resprayed (barely notice), boot & rear footwells are damp / wet, diff is covered in oil & there is a large damp spot under the fuel tank. The engine would also require a new camshaft (I had initially thought it was just valves). Furthermore, the fact that he is giving first refusal to someone who rang him after me (he offered more than I did), was another nail in the coffin. Sadly, this is not going to be for me. Sorry, Howard but I'll have do without a 'proper' car for another while. Looks like it is back to the 5 series hunt again. |

I decided not to take it as I know it is just going to be a money pit. Ah well, such is life.

The right one is out there for you. I didn't believe it when buying my two but everything comes to those who wait (or know what is right).
It's frustrating but nothing like as bad as regretting the purchase. Good Luck |
