Fair enough keep the lunacy for the track. But dont you think our speed limits and rules are really outdated. technological advances have made cars much safer in recent years the speed limits should change to reflect this, I dont think 100 mph is unrealistic for motorway travel, and i don,t drive past schools or through very built up areas at more than 20mph
i have driven a 996 at 180 mph on an empty spanish motorway and loved it but wouldnt do that here, the roads are too busy for a start but in our modern cars 70 mph on a motorway is unrealistic and makes a criminal out of 70% of drivers

Lets be honest...the vast majority of us speed.
I'm not tring to condone speeding but that is a fact! Why race on the roads? Does it make one more of a man? I'm 25 and don't see the point.
IMHO if you want to risk your own life fine...don't risk mine or anybody elses!
Take cover while the flak starts.

It not just cars that speed anyway.
When i went to look at my C36 i went down to Necastle and back in the M3. Coming back i passed a school that had a digital board indicating how fast one was actually going. I was doing thirty on the speedo and the board said i was doing 25 mph. The bus a good bit infront of me was doing 35mph OUT SIDE A SCHOOL!!! What chance are the kids gonna have against a bus.
Think these boards should be put in black spot areas and near schools, though there not going to slow everyone down.
I agree with comments above regarding motorway speed, but although the cars have advanced have the drivers?

Fair point. You always get the odd person who spots a lorry a mile down the road, panics, and then pulls out in front of you when they are only doing 60mph, with no consideration to how quickly someone is approaching from behind!
Not to mention all those middle lane hoggers travelling at 60mph who turn motorways into dual carriageways!

Is it me or has the avarage quality of motorway driving dropped of late? middle and outside lane prefects who cruise at 60-65 to keep the rest of us honest????

That really grates with me they sit in the middle lane at 60 looking with disdain at everyone going past them in the outsiode lane.
If I was a policeman I would pulll everyone of them over and ticket them.

Please, please don't get me started on the middle lane hoggers as I will explode. I thought they had closed the inside with invisible cones last Sunday, perhaps you need special glasses to see them Not a single car using the inside lane

Ok. Would you prefer people to drive at a speed they are not comfortable with? If somebody is in a car which isn't very stable at speeds or the person is not a competent driver; should they be made to drive faster?
I prefer them to finnish what they are doing then get out of the way. Don't forget that the limit was raised from 60 to 70 on dual carriage ways within the last 15 years or so. A lot of older drivers MAY not know.

Beg to differ this point. I've been driving for 15 years and a dual carriageway has always been 70 mph, unless otherwise stated.
Up here in Bonny scotland we only really have 2 lane motorways and most of them can be turned into one lane as they all sit in the overtaking lane. vehicle ahead in near lane a mile ahead better stay in overtaking lane. OVER TAKING WHAT Fecking catseyes!!!!! When we do get the 3 lanes they haven't got a clue. Overtaking lane one and two full, nearside lane empty.
If one sits in the nearsidel ane you can progress quicker as the outside is always breaking. Nightmare.
If there was no speed limit then they would not have a reason to hog the outside lane. Most people would not travel over 80-90 because of fuel costs anyway. MHO

To add the quality has dropped, little or no manners left on the road.

Dont get started on manners. The manners of most drivers these days are shocking.
I like you Toby have been driving nearly 15 years and have noticed a massive down turn in general acknowledgements when letting people out and overall poor driving (jumping into my safe braking distance). Even when it is your right of way and you let them down a street, not even a knod or a wink.
No wonder road rage is so often happening. The amount of times Im sat in either car (not just M3) at the lights and some idiot has to get in the outside (right turning) lane and cut in as soon as the lights change.
I know I shouldnt but this affects the way I drive and the manners I give people and this is perpetual.
Rant over
Sorry

IMO lane hoggers are a big cause of congestion and accidents. This sort of driving only serves to frustrate other drivers, and that can lead to accidents.

Aggressive driving causes most accidents i recon.
If people allowed for faster drivers and faster drivers allowed for slower drivers there wouldn't be this disscussion.
What is the point of getting annoyed with people, while they are driving?
If every body wasn't so rightous about doing whatever speed they wanted to and planned the road ahead instead of reacting to hazards, the roads would be safer.
"Beg to differ this point. I've been driving for 15 years and a dual carriageway has always been 70 mph, unless otherwise stated." You sure? They used to be 60.

Mmmm. Looks like I've opened a can of worms here & still never found out who is was.
Personally, I speed a lot but, I do 20 near schools or in residential estates, I don't speed in town centres or built up areas, I don't undertake (unless it's a blatant middle lane hogger), I don't suffer from road rage & I will sit behind an idiot for ever if it's not completely safe to overtake.
So, am I dangerous? Obviously in many of your eyes, but not mine. Do I regularly drive over 100mph? Yes. Do I hang the back out on roundabouts & favourite bends? Yes. Do I know exactly how fast my M3 will go down the M11? Yes. Have I had an accident in the last 15 years? No.
I'm probably amongst the minority here in so far as I can't afford to do track day that regularly & bought my car for the road. As such I drive as fast as "I think" is safe in any given situation.
If we all drove the same cars, had the same ability & reaction, then maybe speed limits could & should be raised to suit us in certain areas, but everyone is different. I view the speed limits as there for the muppets & will always do so.
I'm above these laws that should get a reaction.
See my next post.

AGREE. BAN THE LOT FOR LIFE. If your not paying attention to the highway code(within reason) and other users then they should not be allowed on the roads.

One further annoying point for me is that it is nearly as dangerous to drive too slow on a national speed limit road as it is to drive over.
These drivers that are tootling along at 25-30mph and you are travelling at the limit and come round a corner to be met by this. Might aswell be a car driving on the wrong side of the road.
