My "eyebrow" lights above my sidelights don't work.  These are the orange LEDs above the ordinary headlights.  Both sides refuse to come on with the sidelights which is when they should come on.

I can't see a part on here.  There is a bulb for the side lights (the angle eyes), the dipped beam and then a bulb for full beam.  There is also a set of LEDs in the clear headlight that site between the headlights and the bonnet.

I haven't been able to have a prod around under the bonnet yet due to working till 11 last night and I'm now back in work again.

Has anyone got any thoughts on what might be wrong?

Would this be covered by my BMW Approved Used Car Warranty?

These lights are obviously not essential to road use so might they try and wriggle out on that?

Thanks

Andrew

If both sides have gone awol then its less likely to be bulb related.  Check the fuse situation to see if any other functions that are controlled by the same fuse are affected.  After that its back to the dealer as far as I'm concerned.  Further diagnosis is with a multimeter and a diag machine.  Not sure about the e60 but the light control module was an occassional failure on the e39.

As an AUC you should have no problem with it being attended to as a warranty item.  you've paid a premium to have it so there should be no quibble.

I have not noticed any other functions not working which makes me slightly worried as, like you, think that if both are out it won't be a bulb failure.

This picture shows what looks like a bulb in a bulb holder.  I couldn't see where the wires went.  Car is outside my office so I'm not going to/want to get mucky snooping about.

This one shows what looks like LEDs but I think that they must be like plastic lenses that disperse the light from the bulb in the picture above rather than being LEDs.  The eyebrow bit is that curves off to the right above the headlights.  I reckon the light source is the 12v 1.4W bulb but that is what I couldn't see as a part number on www.realoem.com.

I'll check my ETK and TIS at the weekend.

Hmmmm.

Andrew

Wouldn't bulbs out bring up a check light somewhere?

You'd have thought so wouldn't you? Perhaps that module is broken as well.

Don't say that!  Last time I took a car to a main dealer, I didn't get it back!

You would think but no, it doesn't.

But what is more annoying is that I can't find the bulbs nor holder listed anywhere!

Andrew,

A buddy of mine in work had the same problem on his 05 E60. Main dealer sorted it. I know it was something very small but cant exactly remember what.

Ill ring him tomorrow to find out.

Mick

Cheers

Went out on Saturday morning armed with a multimeter, test leads a paper clip and a 9V battery.

I pulled the plug out of the socket on top of the light cluster and put some some test leads on the terminals of the bulb which appears to built into the head lights.

The lights worked on both sides so the problem is that I am not getting any power to the leads.

The black leads that you see in the photo above come from the head light unit itself above the indicator light and are only about 75-100 mm long.

Hmm, I think it will need to be a trip to the dealer, unless anyone knows something.

Went to Fairbairns in Glasgow yesterday afternoon.

Told them of the problem, waited about 5 mins and a rather helpful Service Manager came out to look at the car.

He seems to think that it is a programming fault.  In other words the car was re-programmed under previous owners and as a result of this the eyebrow lights do not come on as the car hasn't been told not to put them on when the side lights are on. Stoopid 'puter.

The car will need to be completely re-programmed.  He told me that he didn't think that this was covered by warranty.

He then made a phone call and told me that re-programming would be covered by warranty and that I should book it in at no cost to me.

He bumped his gums a bit that the dealer I bought it from should have noticed this and sorted it at the pre delivery inspection before I took ownership of it a month ago.

So at a mutually convenient date I am to drop it off and pick up a courtesy car.

The girl at the service desk was very nice, helpful and friendly as was the service manager.  What a huge difference in staff attitude from my favourite dealer in Glasgow.

Only kidding mate, hope it gets sorted.

Andrew,

Spoke to Ed yesterday and he says that BMW found a loose cable on the left hand bulb. They told him that they are conected in series so if one has a bad connection neither will work.

Not sure if that helps or even make sense

Mick

Thanks Mick

That does make sense.

I would hope that BMW should find that one.

I know it might be a shot in the dark, but could this be a setting in the I Drive computer? There are so many settings for the lights that I would not be suprised if there was one there to turn off the side lights???

I had a look last night and switched on the "Day time running lights" on the iDrive but that didn't make a difference.  Not sure what day time running lights do when switched on.

Thanks
