Check this polishing job out on the 5 forum. I know it's a new car but a bit of elbow grease and you'll get good results too. http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=16344 I have heard a lot about the 3 step from megs and I'm thinking about getting it myself. Mike |

that is a very indepth insight into the world of polishing. the products sound expensive aswell. lets say i ditch the t cut stuff and go back to the auto glym ultra deep shine. what other products are recommended as a basic must have considering the paint is quite dull with lots of swerl marks? would the 240v electric polish machine be a worth while purchase. i also had a quote for a full machine polish from a local place for Ł80. i was thinking if i had the paint buffed up to a good standard then it would be easier for myself to keep it looking good

Ta....I hate posting those cos I realise how much I miss the E36 over the E46!!!! Agree with the above, meguiars clay bar detailer maeks a huge difference. Gotta admit that after Zymol waxing and buffing the car I then go round again putting a light spray of water on the car and buffing again....seals the wax or something but it does come up even better. HOWEVER....the M3 above was photo'd just before going to a CC day at Gaydon and had taken the WHOLE Saturday to get looking like that. |

All the T Cut colour wax does is fill in the scratch with goop which doesn't
last. The Meguiars step 1 paint cleaner will remove a lot of these swirl marks and small scratches. The clay bar is a sticky plastecine type stuff. Basically you rub it back and forward across the paint and the embedded dirt particles, grime and tar etc. will stick to the clay. You keep folding the clay in your hand to expose a clean side. You MUST use plenty of lubricant or you could scratch the paint. You don't do it often, maybe once a year. And you can do the glass too. The difference when you run your fingertips over the paint after claying is amazing. It's a good idea to do the top of the car first and work down as the bottom of the doors and around the arches are usually filthy. @Stone Island: Those e36's look amazing. Edited by flyingalexf68 |

Don't use that T-Cut Colour Wax stuff. Not good on premium cars. I find the
Meguiars 3 Step system the best. Halfords sell it. I also clayed my car a few months back and it made a big difference. Again Meguiars do a good clay bar kit. Wash the car. Don't dry it just spray some lube and clay the whole car. Wash again. Then dry with a shammy (spelling) and follow the 3 steps. If you do it in the shade it's nowhere near as hard to apply and buff off the cleaner, polish and wax. I find Meguiars applicator pads are great and Halfords do good microfibre cloths for buffing. Buy three packs of each. Just wash them in the washing machine and they're ready to use again. Also seing as you're a beginner I'd recommend the AutoGlym alloy wheel cleaning brush, Turtle Wax alloy wheel cleaner spray and the AutoGlym synthetic shammy (again). |
