Ian,

What can I say but, AWESOME !!!!! I done a similar project with a road E30 M3 about six years ago and just wished I had documented it with photo's like you have done. Please keep them coming.

Are those rods, Pauter's (they look like it) ? If so, to answers Dave's question, they weigh approx 585 grams.

Hi Dave

Yes got the flanges and they are in cheers for that , I'll send you a few quid for a drink , the flanges that were fitted in my diff were 5 series ones so Nigel Moseley thought , I will have to look into this to see if bigger shafts snd outer CV's can be used , it will make it stronger , I dont know what the rods weigh , and there fitted now so cant do it , I am looking for 300+bhp

Phil - No thats on there so I dont get my MOMO suede one dirty yet

Thanks for the kind words , it's actually the first car I've built , all the others I've bought , I just believe that if a jobs worth doing its worth doing right , people were looking at me stupid the attention I put into getting all the clips straight and level  - I need to get out more...

Robbie - Where are you based , I'm coming over a week wednsday , will be in Dublin overnight then driving down to Cork for the West Cork rally , were staying in Clonakilty (sp) will be celebrating the rally , St Patricks day and Wales winning the Grand slam  were playing you that weekend but over here , but I'm over there , er if that makes sense

Hi Ian,

Those rods look wicked. Whats the weight on them and what power are you looking to get out of the engine.

Did the diff flanges arrive ??? and good luck for the rally.

Cheers,

Dave.

hmmm, something tells me you're taking this rally car preperation quite seriously...particularly the Group N steering wheel!

I'm looking forward to seeing some photos of the finished article. I suspect it's going to be quite something.

Been a bit busier with the car this week , put in the fuel lines and brakes lines

Fitted a false floor on the drivers side to fit the floor mounted pedal box to , and fitted the pipework

Had the block back from being re-bored , so gave it a lick of paint

Ready for these beauties

Also got my clocks this week so will have to have some alloy sheets laser cut to fit in the dash

Got my Samco hose kit , I am trying to get a few more sets for the 4 others who was interested in the group buy , as I have a man on the inside , he's going to see what he can do

even got a free key ring and hat !

You could say I'm as happy as Charles and Camilla

WOW Ian, I am very very impressed with your work and attention to detail. That kind of workmanship is more rare than it should be. Well done mate, I hope I get to see it in person some day.

Been doing a few more bits on the car the front and rear calipers are on now

Fronts

Although they are 325mm they look a little lost behind the wheels , I did want to fit bigger discs but the calipers wouldn't take one , and as I wanted to keep the prodrive calipers , tough !

The rears are standard discs grooved , with the rear Prodrive Subaru WRC calipers , the calipers were originally fitted to a vented disc so I have skimmed the calipers to make them narrower to suit the solid disc

The hydraulic handbrake is now fitted to the handbrake lever , I have kept the standard handbrake as the strutineers on the rallies are quite strict on this

As I have gone RHD the pedal box was giving a few headaches , I tried to make an Escort Mk 2 one fit as they are readily available , but was too much hassle , so have decided to fit a 3 pedal one from Tilton , it will be bolted to an alluminium plate which will be bolted to the floor , it will have a series of holes in the plate so the pedals can be moved back and forth to suit other drivers , I can then fit the seat back as far as I can taking into account the gearstick , I still need to reach that , I can space the steering wheel back to suit , that way I can get the centre of gravity back so it will take the fast jumps better without nose diving ,

I have had my 2:5 crank delivered on friday , with the shells it was Ł528 inc Vat , the blocks gone off for a bore , I sent the rods and pistons off with the block otherwise I would have included pics ,

The heads off to Lesters monday for the porting , I'm hoping to have all the engine bits back by next week to start putting it together . and this will top off the engine bay

I have ordered my seats , have gone for Recaro's now , the person who was supposed to be selling me his WRC Prodrive seats is dragging his heels so I cant wait any more , got the TRS 6 point 3 belts coming this week also , still trying to get it ready for this rally on the 29th March !

No this car is tarmac only , it aint going anywhere near a gravel road  I am doing Caerwent in South Wales as my first event in it (as long as its finished ) , then will be doing Eppynt in mid wales , and over to Ireland in September, I'm not going to do a championship in it this year , just going to do some good events and have some fun.

I photo shopped the car with gold and white wheels , it just lookes so much nicer with gold , and its my car so I can put whatever I want on it , so , ner ner ner ner ner !!

An M3 rally car should have gold wheels, back in the late 1980's Prodrive ran cars for the likes of Ari Vatanen with gold wheels. Also on the BTCC cars of Sytner and co.

Looking good.

The only i dont like is the gold rims! sorry

But, what do I know?!

As said, the attention to detail is fantastic!

Almost makes it sad to let it go rallying!

Very impressed with what you are doing Ian.  It will great to see an M3 doing the rounds.  Will you be taking it in the forest ??!

I navigate an Escort Cossie which is off the road at the moment due to catastrphic head gascket failure!  We will be back in the spring though!

Here's a pic of the car on last summer's Prom Stages on The Wirral. (Nice Tarmac event).  Our car is nowhere near as good nick as yours though!
