I too am looking to move up from a 1.4 16v corsa sport to a 318is e36 when i turn 18 in a few months. In performance the corsa is pretty much the same 0-60 but will the car feel a whole lot different power wise. Also ive heard some nice bmw's with ac schnitzer exhausts (prob 6 cylinder) they sounded gorgeous would putting a decent full system on a 318is sound decent? Another thing is alot of people on this site are into usinf superchips and plug in chips that are not mappable? In the vauxhall world we only use unichips really for the mapping capability so is this not reccomended for the 318? Thank, si |

agreed a BMW commands respect, there is just something about them, not even Mercs have the same feel.
and yeah don't mess about with a 318iS there hard tuned by BMW so your not really in a position to do anything to it, since they spent a lot of man hours making it run like it does. i'm waiting a lil while then i'm gettin a 328i or a M3, totally cool cars. In answer to the earlier question, all E30 318is were 136bhp and all E36 318is (both 1.8 & 1.9) were 140bhp. Compared to the 6 cylinder 2 litre (150bhp) they are a bargain, performance, buying and running cost wise. However, don't make the mistake of trying to tune them, it's just not worth it financially. You'll only get 15-20 bhp extra (if you're lucky) plus a good kick in the knackers from your insurers. Save your money and your ncb (not to mention the resale value of the car) & run a std car for a year or until you can afford the extra insurance on a 323 or 325 (+30bhp & +52bhp respectively). Trust me, it makes sense - I've been there & paid the premium! Also, a BMW318is standing still is way cooler than a Fiesta flat-out. Am I wrong? ML318LBT ! Your mother looks great! If I was 20 years younger . . .

I didnt think they did a 316 coup after 1995 apart from the 316 compact. Could be wrong.
I've had both the 1.8 and 1.9 versions. Both felt almost identical on the road performance-wise but the power delivery was different. The 1.9 felt smoother and more equal across the rev range whereas the 1.8 needed a few more revs but felt more urgent at upper end. Edited by Stone-IslandM3 |

No only the 318iS. You can get a 318 coupe with the 125bhp (I think) engine |

£250! did you use gold plated gaskets?
I got mine done by a mate who works for a BMW garage, just over £100 for parts including timing chain tensioner new anti freeze etc and £200 to him and his mate for fitting it. £300 in total and two guys spent a day working on it. |

I'm afraid you'll have to bite the bullet mate.
Either pay £1700 per year on a £2500 car or buy a Micra. Either way, dont crash! Seriously though my mate had a Pug 306 XS when he was having insurance nightmares. Quite quick, handles fantastic and only group 5 insurance. |
