Good news & Bad.

Recovered the car yesterday morning....... a friend spotted it on the hard shoulder of the M50 near Ballymun and called me. Tracker failed, Gards failed friends win through again!

Only looked like a few scratches when I got to the compound, different story when I lifted the lid to check the fluid levels before starting it..... And I always thought oil & water didn't mix? Well & truly mixed when I pulled out dipstick. Waiting for insurance assessor to fly out and confirm that the car shouldn't be started and will need the head off to assess level of damage. Fun with insurance company begins here!!

Will keep you posted to progress. Question now is the tough one, do I really want a car that someone is prepared to break into the house when we're sleeping to take the keys?

I know how you feel - somebody tried (unsuccessfully) to break into my house and we suspect for the car - anyway glad you managed to get it back and that it hadn't travelled too far. Is there much damage to the house?

Just shows that the guards dont care about the cars that get stolen.

Thanks to superb design - obviously NOT of a Bavarian nature - the glass in the windows is designed to be replaced from the outside and as the alrms are contact types because the window wasn't opened in the true sense of the word the alarm didn't go off! Will have to get PIR's fitted to the new place. As a result not too much permanent damage, thankfully.

The gards seemed more concerned about what it was stolen for - there were a couple of wooly hats / balaclavas on the back seat when it was found! probably a bank job or such - they weren't very forthcoming with the info, will have to watch crimewatch to see if it features as a getaway effort!

Thinking of dressing it down once it's fixed so that it looks like a standard E34, wheels, trims etc. a shame but it might be the only way to keep it! DO NOT WANT A MONDEO!!!!

Im not surprised you dont want to change from an M5 to a Ford Mundane.
Did the guards dust the car for prints (doubtful) given that it may be a getaway car?
Was anything taken from the house besides the car keys (I have gotten into the habit of bringing mine upstairs with me)
Must be something about the Leixlip/Lucan Area

It was carefully loaded and stored in a separate area until the forensic boys got there and did their thing, fingers crossed! They did the house as well on Sunday

Derek,

check out http://www.bmwm5.com/">www.bmwm5.com E34 forum,selling a crashed M5.

A guy from Sweden possibly selling a 3.8 130000km front damage, pictures posted, someone from America is already after the engine and other bits, but it might be worth a look as it would be easier to ship engine to Ireland than USA. hope this helps

I've posted this twice just to make sure you get this
