Hi,

I'm looking for a website that has a good guide to the spec's of an E36 M3 Evo. Not engine specs but interior equipment whats standard whats not..

Anyone seen one that does this?

I'm just trying to work out what options were avaliable and what to look for on used vehicles. If you've got something that has that in it would be great if i could get a scan ..

Any issues with high mileage cars 70k+?

Look for the usual stuff like leather,climate etc.Most have air con or sunroof+CD.Options include elec.rear windows,heated  + elec seats and rear spoiler.

Std equip:Computer,LSD,Heated door locks,mirrors and washers and auto dim rear view mirror.I'll get the brouchure scanned and post it.

70k+ not a problem if full history,although clutches can go if abused.Brake discs have probably been done by then.Vanos unit wear is the big problem on EVO's but is not down to miles just luck!

I have a 97P Evo convertible for sale if you are interested. If so mail me on cm@profin.co.uk    Its a mint one, 49k with a the FbmwSH and hardtop.   Doest stick like a coupe but it does look stunning when windows down and pillarless.

There is a lot on http://www.bm3w.co.uk">www.bm3w.co.uk on the subject (and this forum) - I have just posted a FAQ on how to find exactly what you are after on bm3w. There are also good emails on pricing and model variations - GT1s/Gt2s/B3s etc.

70K is not a problem at all, if it has been looked after. A FBMWSH is near essential, but most of all I recommend getting it independentaly checked by a specialist. Treat it right, and that can still mean drive it hard, it will go to 200K! I have driven a 120K machine that was superb.

I have just bought a '98 E36 B3 Coupe, even with its history I still had a independent specialist do a 2 hour up-on-the-ranps inspection.

If you are not aware of the one spectre of the E36 Evo, the "double vanos", you need to be - do a search across the sites, there is a lot of material on it. Don't let it put you off, but be aware.

As to options to look for, for resale vale, there is not much that is essential. Even non-leather machines sell. The one real gem to find is someone who has kept up their original BMW warrenty - you can extend it annually, but not opt back in. Find one with this and the Vanos spectre disapears...

The advice and comments have been great as it's really a minefield trying to find a decent car.. Especially with prices all over the place.

Can anyone provide a fair guestimate for a price of a car?

M3 evo SMG 98 plate S reg circa 50-60k miles

I've been looking at cars from 15k to 18k with the same spec.. Anyone got an idea where the real price lies.. ?

From an indi dealer I would expect to pay £16-17K, after a bit of haggling, for one with leather, air-con/CC (not sure about the SMG bit) and FBMWSH. The main thing is you will be paying a remium for the later year, not the mileage. One thing with the Evo's is that they did not change that much overtime, both in styling and equipment. Hence, don't look out for really nice 96/97s. It is the condition, that is more important.

Equally, don't discount pre-EVOs (94/95), for the sake of the "Evo" tag. Very few can tell them apart and with some simple suspension work £200-300 they drive can just as well and make great bargains.

In the end, it is a buyers market. Know what you want - colour, trim, condition, equiopment - and don't sell out. Wait a little and you will find your dream machine, there are enough out there. But get them checked out.

Well thanks to all that helped .. I'm now the proud owner of a

1998 E36 M3 Evo SMG Coupe

Arctic Silver, Black Leather.

68k I paid £14,500 Spotless History (including all bills) and most importantly still covered by the extended warrenty from BMW...
