Hi folks,

Any suggestions for a company who will provide track insurance in case my "better driving" turns out to arrive too late? (I've done a fair bit of track time, but always either in someone else's car, or one I could afford to write off, if it came to it.....)

Cheers

Jon

Before I switched to Aon I used http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/ - Competition Car Insurance , no connection apart from once being a customer.

I had to get some of this for Rockingham. Both were very close to each other, but Trackdays were slightly cheaper and had a slightly lower excess.

What sort of insurance do you want?

You get liability cover in with the price of BMW Car Club 'Better Driving Days'... so you won't have to sell your house if some angry widow tries to sue you!

If you want some insurance to pay for the repairs that your car needs should the worse happen then you must purchase some 'competition' cover.. they will charge you so much per £1000 of cover.. usually for just the one event.

If there is a collision on the circuit.. it is generally accepted that each driver should sort his own damage out and not point the finger of blame at another.

You will also find that many of the specialist insurers will give you cover as an extension of your regular policy.

Be aware folks.. that if you damage any circuit property.. like re-arranging the Armco.. then the circuit will bill you.. not the club.

Doesn't it depend on the age of the cow?

I RANG MY INSURERS LAST MONTH TO SEE IF I AM COVERED TO DRIVE AT "NON COMPETITIVE- CLUB ORGANISED BETTER DRIVING DAYS" AND THEY GOT BACK TO ME (AFTER TALKING TO THIER UNDERWRITERS, WHO BASICALLY SAID THAT BDD WERE INFACT TRACK DAYS - HOW DARE THEY) AND INFORMED ME THAT BECAUSE THESE EVENTS ARE OF A NON COMPETITVE NATURE, I AM COVERED! I MIGHT JUST GET THAT IN WRITING.

Ian, that is good news. Does that mean that you would also be covered for "track days" (paahhh) as well?

BTW could you turn off your "caps lock" because using upper case is the web way of SHOUTING. It's also much harder to read.

Close but not quite right, it is a combination of the last few letters of the alphabet.

The E39 M5 that explored the gravel at Rockingham has a very similar reg plate, I did a real double take because I thought somebody had cloned my number plate but made the mistake of putting it on the wrong model.

oh yes, i know the one you mean, its the pale metalic blue m5......i was on that session. just thinking of all that gravel rash on his front bumper makes me whince. i also lost it on the very same right hander, did a 360, sh*$ mi kecks, started it up and off for more fun. just managed to keep it on the black stuff. apparentely, they allow you one spin!  that right hander seemed to have a negative camber. great fun!!!

would that be your missus in the car with you at donington?  if so, how did you manage that one?  her indoors would'nt entertain any track action, thats why i go alone

just wanna impress her with my driving skills (dont laugh)

thanks for the links for insurance....... but this thread seems to have wondered slightly;)

As for the cow, Nick, surely there's enough of the old girl to go round a few of us?;)

Only other insurance to get sorted is a lid....

BTW, i'm aimng for the Castle Combe (provisional) dates - anyone got any more info (or should I just pick up the phone?)

cheers

Jon

Jon, sorry for the wandering off topic and I hope you get your insurance sorted. I don't know anything about Castle Combe.

Ian, yep that's wifey in the car with me. She enjoys it and was really upset when she couldn't make Croft last year. Still we are making up for it this year.
