Hi all ave got a slight rattle / ticking noise coming from my engine wasnt there yesterday does anyone have any ideas before i take it somewhere?
Oil level is ok and was last changed less than 4k ago, have noticed it bogging down on take off in first sometimes and sounds like it is running a bit rough.

Blocked injector? Faulty maf sensor? Are the cheap scanners you get on ebay any good at fault finding?

thanks in advance

The N42 engine does like to rumble and tick sometimes. It always happens. The culprit could be the vacuum pump at the back of the block.

Bump !
Took my car to my local garage to remedy my engine woes ,have used reliably for years and asked them  to look into my problem (hesitation, rattly engine, all smoothness gone sounds lumpy).
In short they were unable to fix it,(wera and tear they put it down to) but managed diagnose a blocked cat q new xhaust system to the tune of around £450 by the time labour was added on:( and my custom backbox handed back in my boot!!!!

Plus not a phone call to let me know cost or what they were doing!!!!! rant over.

so now I really need to get it sorted, as its runing my driving experience i know something isn't right and am concerened that something is eventually going to go horribly wrong.

Can anyone recommend an indy garage in west central scotland to take it to? i live in robroyston so local'er the better.

thanks in advance , also thanks Robin for reply.

Update for all, problems were worn /slack timing chain, and a faulty maf sensor causing poor idling and sluggish performance.
