I wonder if anyone can offer some insight:

When I reverse out of my drive in the morning the PDCs all work fine. When I reverse into my work parking space 30 minutes later, 2 or 3 of the rear PDC sensors go onto a continuos beep and stay like that until it switches itself off.

When I leave work at the end of the day, everything is fine again until I get home and then it starts the continuous beep again.

This happens almost every day but not 100% of the time.

I've checked each sensor and they are all clicking. I've given them all a gentle tap, squirted with WD-40. This has been going on for a couple of months.

My 1st thoughts are that the PDC Control Module is on the way out. Has anyone replaced one of these?

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you polished the car?  The sensors need to be clean and a layer of wax or sealent over them may upset them.

I only had to http://www.bavarian-board.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=48562&PN=1" rel="nofollow - replace a sensor when mine failed by listening for the one that doesn't click.  Never had to mess with the control unit though.

Hello,

Random stab in the dark but it sounds like it only happens once the car is warm, suggesting that it could be something on the sensors as Andrew suggests. And I only say that as the exhausts do get hot, even on the diesels so it could be that a coating on them gets a little gelatinous after half an hour on the road.

Just a guess but I would certainly start by cleaning them thoroughly and possibly even wiping them with a gentle solvent to remove any grime or grease.

Crispy,

Good thought however it can start to happen even after only a very short distance. I've tried cleaning them (not by removing them), WD40 etc.

Thanks.

I had a similar problem on my E38. PDC bleeped continuously. After a while I noticed that if it was dry weather, then it all worked fine so I waited until it was raining and took it to my dealer. Turned out the inner right rear was causing the problem. I replaced it with a new one (easy for this - not so easy for the outers) and have had no problem. Looked like it had some water in it when I checked it over after removal.
