Do you get it done with the old tyres on?
Or
Do you get the new tyres fitted and then get them taken back off to get the rim fettled up?
Or
If you are super organised (which I'm not at the moment) you get the rim refurbed and the new tyre put on at the same time.
What have others done?

When I got mines done I had new rubber waiting to go on. I also like to have a couple of coats of wheel sealant on as well! Just make sure the weather elements have calmed down, especially with the salt on the road before you get them done... ------------- E46 328ci now sold :(

Another reason I'd opt for new rubber is the people doing the refurb will be extra careful popping on the new tyres and be less likely to scratch/chip the freshly refurbished wheel! As it'll take a good few weeks for the paints to harden properly! ------------- E46 328ci now sold :(

I dug out an old thread where there was a debate about E60 tyres and Cambell pointed us in the direction on Camskill. Looking on line at them and various other websites, it would appear that tyres for my chariot are cheaper than I remember.

Had a shufty around at wheel refurbing. Was in BMW dealer this morning, they offer 4 wheels refurbed for £50, BUT they only 're-furb' the outside bit of the wheel rim. The re-furb bit is shot blasting and then painting. They don't touch with blast or paint the inside of the rim! The worst bits on my wheels are the inside bits, which you can see if you look enough. He told me that there is a danger of wheels working loose if the back of the wheel is painted/coated. Hmm. They only break the bead of the tyre off the rim, they don't take the tyre off the rim. Hhmmmm. Then went to Powdertec/Wheel pro who will chemically strip and blast clean the rim before painting/coating. Give or take based on my size of rim they want £75 per corner, but can do four wheels in one day. ------------- Be exclusive and drive a Petrol 5 Series! Dealer option sounds like a "Patch" up job to me Andrew ???  How can you paint a wheel without taking the old stuff off & the tyre off the rim ???  As I said in a previous post on this thread "Wheel Specialist " in Cumbernauld did mine ....top job & one day turn around too  -------------  |

I've used Powdertec more than a few times for wheels and they have always done a very good job.They got bought over last year after Michael(the owner)moved to Australia,most of the staff are still there so standards should be pretty much the same. For tyres I always use RD tyres on Pinkston Road,Glasgow the guy who owns the little place is very good and takes care of the rims when fitting tyres. I've always found them to beat prices I've got elsewhere and TBH I'd rather deal with a person face to face than buy over the net because if I have a problem and need to make a warranty claim it's a ball ache as I'd need to get another tyre so as I can send the claim one back to the supplier.

I had a look at my tyres yesterday and I've got a bit more tread than I thought so not quite ready to change the tyres and hence get the rims done. | My wheels are with a bodyshop in East Calder at the moment, the paint is so bat that one of them needed toping up with air every few days, they seem to know their stuff and were recommended by a local car sales firm I've known for years, will post pictures if OK after I get them back at the end of the week |
