The third brake light bulb in my E39 525i has blown and I'm getting the annoying chime every time I start the car.
Now, normally this is an easy enough fix; remove the plastic cover, remove the bulb, etc.

However, my sat nav DVD sits slap bang in the centre of the boot mouth, right under the access hole for the brake light bulb.
Anyone ever come across this before? Do I have to remove the DVD unit?

That an odd one. Both my Sat Nav CD unit and CD player sit on the left hand side. I've never seen them like that before.

Yeah you will need to remove the unit as there is a hatch to change the bulb under the light unit in the boot.

My E39 had a space for the CD unit as Robin says in the left hand side. Strange position on yours.

I don't imagine that it will be held in with very many screws to take out. A man of your ability can manage that

Don't moan but what does the handbook say?

Yellow hi viz? Work or ready for driving in France?

No handbook. Everything removable, including the sat nav dvd were removed when it was imported from Japanland.

The high viz was indeed a memory from a French trip (pic taken a while back).

Anyhow, it looks like it won't be the simple job it should be (and knowing my luck, the bulb holder will have melted!)

So I take it that someone other than you fitted the unit then?  How is the unit fitted then?

It's factory fitted according to the spec sheet.
When cars are imported here, anything not bolted in place is usually removed for some unknown reason (although my toolkit h first aid were left).
