Evening all,

New to the forum and thought it only fair to introduce myself. I'm Dave, and I've got a 2001 facelift e39 530i Sport Auto:

Shortly after I collected it:

and after some hardwork cleaning it:

Sadly it didn't stay that clean for long, so it is due another good clean again!

Welcome to the forum, hang around on here.

Nice car, I love the E39 facelifted sports models.  One of the best looking BMWs, I think.

The 3.0i will be a peach, nice big sweet 6 pot.  Just keep an eye on the oil level.

I spent a long time looking for a clean late 530i Sport but sadly never found one, enjoy it.

All the best with the car

Andrew

Thanks :)

I went to a BMW5 meet a couple of months back, and the short drive between the initial meeting point and the pub (for lunch, of course!) one of the M5 owners commented 'I'd forgotten how good the e39 looks with the angel eyes on'. TBH, I think they got it spot on with the e39, and it has aged well - doesn't look like a 11 year old car.

Re: oil - I had an oil change done pretty much as soon as I got the car with Castrol Edge 5w40 fully synthetic, and when it had the Inspection I around 6 or so months later it was replaced again with the same. Top ups don't seem too bad unless you are driving it hard - but I keep some in the boot just in case (not got a level drive so it gets checked/filled at a petrol station).

I was lucky on this one, it had only covered 61500 miles when I bought it, all the owners knew each other, and it was a friend of the family selling it - so I knew it wasn't utterly rotten. Few things inevitably needed doing over the first year (main one was the radiator deciding it wanted to be in two pieces rather than one on the first weekend of ownership!), but otherwise it has been good.
