Well after umming and ahhhing and 2 years away from BMs after selling the 540 my truck sold today so back on the hunt.

Thinking another e39 touring so it'll take us camping, and as I commute via company car/ bike/ scooter fuel costs arent a massive worry. So probably 530 or 540 though want facelift and pref a sport.

To be fair the 2 years have been good in terms of appreciating things...was getting a bit BMbored but after a Jeep that royally broke, a Mitsubishi L200 Animal that almost bankrupted us and then a perfectly fine L200 Trojan that needed new turbo at 50k miles and was very crashy, it'll be nice to get back to nikasil issues, air suspension bills and OBC pixel drops!!LOL.

Good stuff.

I was after a facelifted E39 530i Sport and they were like rocking horse poo at the time I was looking, so good luck on your hunt.  Al I kept seeing was the 530i Champange editions which have an internal colour combination that resembles cat sick.  You really know deep inside that you want another V8.

sorry to ehar about your 4x4 woes, I thought those Jap 4x4s were un breakable.

What is it they say?  If you want to go into the Australian outback, you use in a Landrover.  If you want to be able to get out of the Australian outback, you use in a Japanese 4x4.

Keep us posted on your search.

Theres not a lot of 540 tourings around...grey/green one in Oxford that looks nice but big meaty non-removable towbar on the back and gangsta blacked out front & rear windows. No probs as I'm running round on the lambretta and the company Fiat Panda so times on my side.

No, once you get a Jap truck you do some digging and it all goes bit wrong from there. toyota hilux pick-ups are decent, old shape Mitsy L200s known to eat head gaskets, old shape nissan navaras got engine and sump bolts IIRC too small and its a case of wwhen they'll spew your engine over the road not if. New shape Navaras got some issues, clutch etc, new shape L200s HG probs etc.

My 1st L200 in 1 year needed new clutch, new battery, new CAT, timing belts and pulley and new fuel pump...best part of £4k. Sold that and got a 2006 one with sub-50k on clock...2 weeks later needed a new turbo! TBF when it worked it was brill.

...I know where you are going with that and can relate to that concern.

The Parkers guide used to say that if you see a second hand Volvo or any other similar big car with a with a towbar, be warned....

If the rear suspension bushes show no signs of wear and the clutch and gearbox are o.k. on a test drive and there is no oil and water leaking out the engine block then you are probably o.k.

I'm saying that of course having a towbar on my E60 which I use to pull a small trailer once a month (less than 500 kg), a 1200 kg trailer once, a 800 kg once and a 1400 kg caravan once.
