Its insurance renewal time and the details have popped through my door. I'm a bit annoyed about that as the inurance company phoned me last Thursday at an inconvenient time and I asked them to call back on the Friday after 2PM, I'm still waiting, but hey, my renewal has arrived.

Now, when I bought the car in April of this year, I felt I got humped with the change price. Well the renewal price is £542 with an option of a policy at£490.85

After being advised on TV by a wee portly Arab and a former F1 and Nascar racing champion, I went on the comparison website and have managed to get a fully comp policy for pennies over £230. Haggle haggle !!

Well worth the look, you guys do the maths.

Nice result Cambell

I shopped around one year and went from over £600 to £328!  In the days before BMW's though.

Both my wife and I are with Admiral Multicar Policy.  We are probably getting screwed but as we have both made no fault claims with Admiral (for full loss of the car in both cases) we feel if we did go anywhere else and when we get asked the question of "have you made any claims in the last 5 years" it is going to affect the policy big style.

One important point to note about premium price is make sure you only insure your car for what it is really worth.  If you bought your car for £15k, 3 years ago and you insured it for £15k, 3 years ago, your premium is based on the £15k.  Today it isn't going to be worth £15k so there is no point paying a premium for that value.  If it is only worth £9k today, that will make a difference to the premium you pay.

cracking result Cambell.

I never tell them about mods, it's enough of a pain in the
4rse constantly repeating yourself when shopping around to
also mention a long list of mods.

When I do my first trawl I don't mention the mods. It lets me know what the bell curve of charges looks like this year; who wants my business and who doesn't.

Then I go to mods specialists and compare.

I always make sure the mods are declared on the final policy tho. If I ever have the misfortune to need my insurance, I will not be giving the insurance company any excuses to squirrel out of it.

Indeed, I always respond "market value" when asked this question over the phone.  They'll only pay out what it's currently worth anyway.  I think agreed valuations only come into play on classic cars, but I'm happy to be corrected.

Remember adding an extra driver can significantly reduce your
premium. When insuring my car this year the quote for fully comp
reduced by £200 by adding my dad, even although he had points.

I took my dad off my policy cos he got 3 points for speeding and I saved £12 at renewal time!

Stevie, if you don't declare your mods and you need to make a claim you are leaving yourself with the potential of the insurance company walking away without giving you a penny.
