Define what you think the "North East" is.

The BMW Car Club thinks it starts at Peterborough but (being a Geordie) I know it starts at Middlesborough. South of there is just "the South".

That's close enough John.

BMW Club NE meet at the Dun Cow, Bournmoor on the first Wednesday of every month from 7:30pm onwards. If we aren't outside we'll be in one of the side rooms. There's anything up to 30 people there so you'll find someone to talk to.

Before that we'll be at the Classic Car Show at Corbridge this Sunday (4th). We will have about 25 cars on show.

Hi... I'm from the north east, just joined and noticed this thread so thought I'd say hello... I'm Steve and I live just off the a690 between Sunderland and Durham . Had a few BMW over the years and many others but I always seem to come back to bm. Literally ( yesterday) just bought a 728i and would appreciate any help info or advice relating to this model please.... I know these big uns drink the juice but I think mine may have a problem as its averaging 9 mpg!!! So hoping to get issues like that and a few other problems sorted with it ASAP. It's going to be my daily driver but also a work on progress if you like as I intend on doing work to it to improve it all round .....
Hope to get to know you all and pick up a few new mates along the way.

Steve

Hi Steve

Welcome to the forum.

If you live in the Houghton-le-Spring area then you aren't far from where BMW Club NE meet - The Dun Cow at Bournmoor http://www.bmwclubne.co.uk" rel="nofollow - www.bmwclubne.co.uk

The E38 728 uses the M52 motor & it should do a lot better than 9 mpg! Are there any other symptoms - misfires, lumpy idle, lack of power etc?

Take a good look around the engine bay - any split or perished hoses, all wires connected (e.g. MAF)? Air filter choked up? Leaking fuel pipe somewhere? E38's often have an issue with leaking fuel tanks.

If it's nothing obvious then it would be best to take it somewhere to have the fault codes read. It's over-fuelling for some reason but you could spend a lot of time & money replacing things before you track down the problem. e.g. it's a bit of a faff just to get the spark plugs out for a check.

I can recommend Jon Morgan at http://www.prestigegermancars.co.uk" rel="nofollow - Prestige German Cars in South Shields or some of our guys use http://www.ploughmotors.co.uk" rel="nofollow - Plough Motors in Haswell Plough, Durham. Both are BMW experts & should be able to sort you out.

Tell them BMW Club NE sent you.

Try & get along to one of our meetings at the Dun Cow - first Wednesday of every month.

Andy

Hi Andy. Thanks for the welcome,I'm more east Herrington area than houghton, but it's literally 5 mins away so once the car gets sorted out I may well pop down to burnmoore and meet the gang etc. as of yet it's too early to tell with the car as I only picked it up yesterday afternoon but I will try and work my way through the basics first before I have to spend lots of cash on it, I'm just hoping that I find the culprit and am able to fix it. I drove an impress prior to this so 25 mpg would be great lol
Thanks for the garage recommendations I will definitely get in touch with the nearest

Thanks again
Steve
