OK, nuff'snuff, I've now had at least 2 goes at fixing my sloppy box (matron).  The latest was an M5 box which isn't even the same casing (yes Mike, I forgot to check!), and I still can't find a replacement E34 540 box.

So, options are to take mine out and send it off (unattractive as car will be dead on the street and the box might be unrepairable), keep hunting for a scrap one (no luck so far) or use one off another model that fits.  The 840 and E32 740 appear to share the same casing, but the part no's are different.  Does anyone know where to find the specs?  I don't mind a wee change in ratio (preferably faster) but obviously throw changes etc would be problematic.
