Hi - Thought I'd show off the New Motor. Some of you might remember me from a couple of meets. I have an E30 M3 Convertible Summer Toy .........................

Anyway I've managed to convince my wife to sell her 318 touring ( Pic Attached if interested in buying PM me ) ( she gets my company Touran ) and i get to buy an 8er as my daily.

So ....... After 6months + of scouring the internet for a good one ..... I wend down to London on 31st Dec to pick this up.....It's a W Reg 2000 840 Sport Individual in Royal Red with Cream Leather - One of the very last build in 99 and registered in Jan 2000 hence the W Reg.

70k miles - Full Comprehensive Dealer History . 2 owners - 2nd owner purchased a Warranty throughout it's life till Jan 09.

Delighted to say the least - just loving that V8 roar.

Things to do .....

(1) Slight ding in the bootlid and a couple of scuffs on the front bumper. Going in this week to get sorted at local Garage.

(2) Rear diffuser (M Power Spoiler thingy below the bumper )  is missing ?? - Not sure what happened here but it looks as if there was one at one time as theres still a bracket. One on order at the stealers and being painted this week for fitting next weekend.

(3) Full detail and Zymol when I have the time !

(4) Need to get my own plate on it. P1 MJN for sale if anyone's interested PM me.

(5) Alpinas Alpinas Alpinas !!! Need / Want 18" Alpina's Deep Dish - but so i believe do all 8 owners. I can buy them new online but they are £2k so need to get lucky and get some 2nd hand.

These are the wheels I'm talking about .....

Comments welcome.

GARY

Very nice indeed.
I know what you mean about the Alpinas - though the 8 series I saw was an genuine Apina.

You can always put an add up in the adverts section of this forum.

Nice V8 powered set of wheels.

That P private numberpalte will be worth a few bob as it has No. 1 in it.  It will go some way towards your new wheels.

All the best with it.

Were some of these 840's fitted with four wheel steering?

I seem to recall seeing the text advertising that years ago.

Thanks for the comments guys !!

Andrew your right about the Reg - although I'm not wholey convinced as I've had valuations of £2 - £2.5 k, £1500 and £490 !!!!! It's being advertised anyway so we'll see what happens. Also not sure about the 4 wheel steering - certainly isn't on my car's build sheet.

I'm trying to convince some other 8 owners to come along to the next meet in Feb so might see you all there.

Just the 850CSi and the B12 5.7 Coupé had active rear wheel steering, although there is an element of passive steering in the others, like everything with the Z-axle.

Active rear wheel steering was also an option on the 'standard' 850s so it might have found it's way to the 840 options list.  However, I've never heard of an 840 having it.

Meant to ask - any other 8 Series owners on here. I think I remember seeing one last year at BM Motors meet ? A silver / Grey one I'm sure !

Also - any recommendations for advertising the wifes 318 Touring. I'll do Pistonheads and maybe Autotrader - any other good / free one's that are good ?

Very tasty Gary, the 8's are always a head turner for me.

Happy hunting on the 'pina Softlines. They would set the car off a treat!

Ah I see said the blind man.

Thanks for that.

'scuse the stoopid question but whats a B12 Coupe?  Is that based on the 8 Series?  I've not got my head round the Alpina B numbers etc.  E numbers yes....

They were available on the 840, but VERY rare due to it being about £4k

The BMW acronym for it is AHK.

There were 2 B12 coupe models: The 5.0 (based on the early 850i) and the much more desirable 5.7 (based on the 850CSi). The latter has all the usual CSi features (AHK, throttle sensitivity switch, 6-speed manual box, etc) but also had a more powerful engine (415 BHP standard) and the usual Alpina suspension and styling tweaks.

There were only around 17 RHD 5.7s produced. A good low mileage one that has been properly looked after will fetch upwards of £40k.

The next best thing is the 850CSi itself, which is still a fantastic car at a much more affordable price than the B12. Good ones can be had for £12-15k these days, even less for slightly ropier ones but it's a false economy buying a "cheap" CSi.

Mine is somewhat of a poor-man's equivalent to the CSi, as it has all the CSi styling and the 6-speed manual box, but is somewhat down on the engine power!

Hey Paul yours looks very similar to mine are you attending the meet next Sunday ?

I think I'll attend and plan to meet up with another new 8 owner.

I'll try to make the meet, although the 8 is currently at my mate's as I bust one of the headlight adjusters (they are made of cheap plastic and break if you look at them wrong). So I need to strip the headlight unit and fit new adjusters first

Currently running around in the 318is, damn that thing is sloooooow although it does do 28 MPG and is a hoot to drive even with the lack of power
