I have just tried replying to a letter in the NE section and got bombed out for spamming. Can anyone explain why this would happen? Apart from being a dodgy ham type grunge, what is the 'nets definition of 'spam'?

Darren.

Darren, best bet would be to take this up with the forum moderator. The forum has some built in software which will try to prevent posting the same text in multiple places - it will disallow this under the banner of 'spam' - this may be what you experienced....

According to Demon, spam is "Unwanted or unsolicited email duplicated to many people at once, usually advertising goods or offering services. Deeply frowned upon by most Internet users." However, it can be more generically used to describe misuse of fora such as this.

Webdunk is correct - there is a facility that I set up on the forum to prevent 'spam'.
This disallows more than one post every 20 seconds and no more than 5 posts every 8 minutes.
This is to prevent certain sources bombarding the board with spam.
What probably happened you was that you clicked submit to post a message and then as it was happening so slowly you clicked it again resulting in the forum thinking you tried to post 2 messages within 20 seconds.
Apologies for the inconvienence but it is a necessary evil.

Killian / Duncan,

Thanks for the replies. I did press the post button twice as it didn't appear to respond the first time. Now that i know better i will be a little more patient next time. Sounds like a very sensible block that has been set up. This is something new that i have learnt.

All the best for the new year,

Darren.
