My Dad has a 96 E34 525tds T that I bought a second hand obc for some time ago. I also bought the correct codeplug from my local BMW dealer. My Dad installed it and everything was working absolutely fine, until recently. After installing a new battery the display now reads: PPPP. According to the manual for the obc this is an indication that the car does not "recognise" the obc. Can anybody help me shed some light on this issue, please? It may be the wrong type of OBC, theres a pin that provides power on one type that needs changed over http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/OBC.htm - http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/OBC.htm This should cover it. ------------- 528 for now |

This is how to sort the PPPP out on an E30, believe E34 and E30 OBC's are the same, but may be wrong on this one. "First, press CODE, and then press the small recessed button on the lower right of the unit. After a second or two, the LED in the M MPH button will flash once, and the OBC is reset. All memory is wiped out, so you'll have to reset the date and time." (quote from s14power.com) Edit; looking at the previous post the OBC's are not the same, but may still work. -------------

Sporty1 - Thanks I will try it when my Dad comes home and post back. NOISUFNOC - The obc worked perfectly for a year; it was in connection with it being disconnected from the battery (or rather vice-versa) that it stopped working. Edit: Just spoke to my Dad and the OBC4 does not have a reset-button, refered to above, so itīs back to the drawing board... ------------- Larzyh. Just by way of up-date; the only solution apparently was to install a new Code-plug. Now done and everything is working perfectly again. copy and paste :) voala What to do if you get PPPP displayed on the OBC I've heard that disconnecting the battery for a long time (like 1 hour) will make this go away. I lived with this problem for several (3) years. I tried disconnecting the battery for the 1+ hours or so to no avail. The ultimate solution was to disconnect the computer itself from its multi-pin connector. I left it unhooked for approximately 24 hours. Upon reconnecting the computer.....viola a full up and running OBC II. Jeff Wilcox So here is what works most of the time. With the key in the "Radio" position (Radio and OBC light up, but not the instrument cluster), press the "CODE" button. Then push the little reset-hole with a Pen and hold it, 'till the computer blinks in the display, and it will ask you for a time and date entry. - You now have re-adapted the coding plug to the computer. - Normally the computer goes into a PPPP mode when the car has been boosted, or some other very drastically voltage changes have occurred. |
