Nice Gaming Rig you have there Kin, future proof for about two-three years then upgrade time again..

That looks very similar to Alienware specs..hmmm

cba with the tech specs on my two Pc's..(can't remember more like)

My system had an upgrade of CPU, mobo and RAM just this year, rest of the stuff is 2 years old. Will upgrade when needed.

Alienware is good but would you pay nearly twice as much compared to our systems for prettier packaging?

Check out the system we are currently building... 2 x 36GB Raptor drives in Raid 0 as a system disk to be put in as well. His bluray/HDDVD optical drive is €850!!!

Coooool  I had one of them, but the knobs fell off

I've now got a BIG floor mounted beast, with four hard-drives, Mega-Gigs worth of Ram, with an old keyboard and even older mouse swipped - cough - borrowed from work, and a 19" sooper-dooper Flat-Screen - in black.

Still running XP as I don't trust this new vespa lark

System internals/hardware is what counts IMO. Having a pretty case not a necessity although, having an efficient quiet cooling case is also up there.

Hmmm.. Blue-Ray DVD compared to HD DVD

Blue-Ray has huge capacity but, VHS v Betamax all over again, (that's another thread)

I'll sit on the fence on that choice..

Hardware is where it's at, bit like cars really..

I bought my son the following to build up his system..
  • EVGA 8800 GTS SuperClocked 640MB GDDR3 PCI-E Graphics Card
  • EVGA nForce 680i SLI SKT775 7.1channel audio DDR2 ATX
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz 1066MHz)
  • 2Gb Crucial Memory
  • Samsung DVD 18x writer (with lightscribe)
  • Antec 182 case / 650W power supply
  • 160 Gb Raptor HDD
  • Vista Premium
So not to disimilar to Alun's system.

He's now got it setup so that he gets a Vista score of 5.9 (the maximum

Yes, running 64bit rendering packages too, 3DS Max 9, Autocad 2008 etc, so with these programmes, I really need 8gb ram running high mhz's. I know xp doesn't support 8gb. I'd rather run XP tho.

The 4gb is still good though.

It's a good system Nero, it'll serve him well! I wanted the 2.6ghz quadcore but it was twice the price! I couldn't justify it on a students wage! How does he feel the raptor drive is? I don't know if i should get one or not... hmm

Raptors are good for system disks, in Raid 0. Storage disks are fine using the new perpendicular harddrives which provide close enough performance for much less money.

As for the third linky not working, do you think there might be a reason???
