I've got an 84 635 CSi which has just developed a pressurised water system, flickering temp guage and intermitant heat from the matrix.

I know the head gasket's OK (I've had a hydrocarbon test done) So Its been suggested it's either a sticking thermostat or possibly the impeller on the water pump has fallen off - I've only had the car for a month so i'm not very familiar with the layout. How do i go about checking and rectifying these problems

Cheers

Art

A flickering temperature gauge usually means it's got a bad electrical connection. You would need to drop the steering column and remove trim in order to remove the instrument pod to get at this problem.

Could be an airlock to and you want to get this sorted soon, as if you have hot and cold areas in the engine compartment this can later spell headgaskets. A good Mechanic should be able to diagnose this for you.

Call me paranoid, but if you go to a high street garage and explain the syptoms you just know that you'll get a call later saying "sorry, but the head gaskets's gone" - that's why I want to have a crack at it myself

I would give Richard and Richard a call at Fritz Bits. They are six series specialist and they will probably be able to diagnose the problem over the phone. If you live locally to them, they are based in Somerset. there number is 01823 669425. They are good guys and have chatted to them many times about aquiring parts. Very helpfull.
