Just wondered what others would buy/drive if you didn't have a BMW for any reason?

I tend to prefer Jaguar 'R' types, Mercedes AMG class, Audi 'R' models and Volvo 'R' models. I have an XKR and a T5 GT, but it would definately be one from the list mentioned.

I don't have a beemer at the moment, & drive a Rover 75. This is mainly because the rover was cheap, and is economical enough to use for work.

I've often mused over what I'd drive if money was no object, I liked the M5 I drove very much, but I imagine I'd go for something British built, so probably a jag.

Difficult choice, maybe a Trabbant or a Kia Rio.

Seriously though probably something on the lines of a Honda Accord, Lexus IS200, Audi A4  or VW Passat.

If money no object then an Aston Martin.

If I hadn't have bought my first beemer last year and got involved with the
club I'm fairly sure I would be driving a SWB Mitsubishi Shogun 3.2 DiD
Warrior Automatic. Thats what I was planning to buy before diciding to get
my first ultimate driving machine.

Well as I also have a Ford Galaxy 2.8 V6 Ghia (just bought it for the wife to free my car from kids and so I can have more fun with it!) so without the beemer, it would be that. Cost no object? an early Aston Martin Vantage or a DB9 or a Vanquish, or the new V8 or...... another Aston. I do like them, suits me sir!

Pretty much nail on the head for me there, realistic choices. I'm pretty spolied too with the M3 and the T5, but have a hankering after a Focus ST - that modern day quattro sound does it for me big time   Also would love another Alfa, a what you say!!!  A Brera !

But hanging onto the M3 for the forseeable future.............love that car.

there are lots of other cars that I like and as i'm not one for brand loyalty my next car may well not be a BMW, especially given the challenging styling of the latset models.

I like the new Accord and toyed with the idea of getting a 2.4 type-S. I also looked at an R33 Skyline GTS, a Nissan 200sx and a Focus ST170. I'd also love a 300zx TT but was scarred to buy one due to the expense of maintaining them, the potential for massive bills and the really bad MPG. Same goes for a Porsche 944 Turbo/S2.

If money was no object I would get a Porsche 911 (997) Turbo

Would have said a Range Rover (not the sport - I'm not a soccer mom), and having had the 3.0D Vogue for the weekend I'd be tempted by the new, non-barge-like one.

With a black e39 M5.  But seeing as I can't have a BMW, then a Jag XKR, or an XKRR if they're allowed produce it now that they're seperate from Aston Martin...

Time to go and rob that bank...

Excellent question.

Difficult to answer too.

I almost bought a Maserati 4200 GT but the clutch eating habits put me off.  However, if I'd not driven the 6, the chances are I'd have taken the chance and bought the 4200.

However, I'd also be regretting it right now, because I've since spoken to a few people from the UK owners club, and they're not the happiest bunch of folk you'll ever meet.

You're right, thats the Jaguar engined 4.2ltr Supercharged V8 - awesome in the Jags, but don't know what it's like in the Range Rovers, although it seems adequate.

I dont really know to be honest, brand loyalty makes it so much easier! Volvo's were and are my first love so to speak and i still collect them but i tried last year to have a T5-R as a daily driver but it drove me mad!

I did think of an S6 there before i bought the M3 but for sheer reliability i would be tempted by a TT Supra or an R33 Skyline GTR. If it wasnt for such bland interiors.

I have a landcruiser there for daily driving but am tempted to move it on and pick up an E39 of some sort or an Audi A4 TDi 130 if i could justify upwards on 15k on a glorified golf!

Any practical 4 door family saloon car as long as it is rear wheel drive except Jags, Merc and Lexus......so er um that leaves me with er um em oh yes I've found the car that meets my spec ...a BMW.

If Ford made a rear wheel drive car I'd have one.

Vauxhall make the Monaro (or have they stopped production now) but that doesn't meet the description of a 4 door family saloon car.

Front is for steering, rear is for driving, end of argument!

Great Q  - the obvious answer for me is an Elise  but it's a case of SO many cars, so little time or funds...

135i coupe, 335d touring, E28/34 M5, E46 M3, Z3M Coupe... any M-Power motor would do though, several Mazzers, a 993 C2 preferred but any 911, RS4 Avant, NS-X, S2k, Any Jag-R, SL63, TVR Griffith, Exige, Mustang, Noble, Weismann, 550 Maranello, Clio V6..... I need to stop or I'll depress myself. And that's only the aspirational stuff! If I got into the volumes of dodgy old motors I'd love to own, I'd be here for the rest of the day.

This has been for sale for nearly a year now I'd say... some motor. I remember CARs report on it back in the day being tested by Paul Frere. http://carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=Car&carID=315550&message=You%20searched%20for%3A%20Maserati%20Karif%2E%20Your%20search%20returned%20one%20vehicle%2C%20which%20is%20shown%20below%2E&CFID=2175588&CFTOKEN=43726512 - Maserati Karif

Was driving thorugh the village where I live and there was a great artic parked up on the other side of the road - flashing orange lights in the grill. The container on the back was being tipped and lowered backwards. On driving by I looked in the rear view and saw a bright yellow brand spanking new Lambo in the back!! Typical, left my phone at home so couldn't take a pic. I'll have to keep my ears open now.

Before my E46 330i touring I had a Nissan 200sx.Really, really liked that car but then the practicallity question was asked...

If I didn't need the room it would definately be another 200sx / Skyline / 350Z. The 350 looks really good to me. Definately have to be RWD and more than likely Jap. If I was going for the practical angle again would probably go for a 535d touring.

Money no object 250 GTO.....

I couldnt agree more, i have started working at the port in bristol and all i deal with all day is vauxhalls and i have had the pleasure of driving a few VXR corsa's (dont laugh) which are suprisingley well built and quick 1.6 turbo i think and a completley different animal to the normal ones and i have driven a VXR8 not very far but driven all the same and i would buy one - i cant believe they are vauxhalls

Think they are mid £30k new, and come with your usual bits and pieces, climate, cruise, leather etc. three years old your probably looking at half that, or less.

The NSU Ro80. I had one for four years but, although everything worked, wasn't able to restore it properly, so it was sold to a fella in Coulsdon who already owned ten of the things.....

My one had a Mazda 13B (2.6-litre equivalent) rotary fitted by the previous owner
