Hi

Anyone out there got one of these Porter Cable polish machines?  I have done the research on the tinterweb etc but I would like to hear first hand from other users of the PC before I buy one.

What brand of polish do those who have one use?

Thanks

Andrew

Hello Andrew.

Basically Porter Cable (7424 or 7336) are the industry standard for detailers. Often detailers will have rotary machine as well.

Porter Cables are so good because they are random orbital polishers so are very forgiving and perfect for beginners. Thay are professional quality and last, mine has had loads of use and is good as gold.

Not all polishes are suitable for machine use because they don't have enough 'hangtime' which means they'll dry-out to quickly.

I use Visomax Prometheus polishes with mine and they are fantastic for heavy rectification. The Zaino Z-PC is fantasic as a final polish but has little 'cut'. Zaino Z-PC is designed for use on cars whose paintwork is not badly defective.

Please pm me if you'd like more information..

You know you'll need a transformer?

Cheers - Nick.

Thanks guys

Yeah I know I'll need a transformer.  What plug did your pc come with?  It wouldn't have been a british three pin plug obviously, but was it a round three pin plug, you the type that fits into the transformer? Or was it somethng completely different that you then had to lop off and change to a three pin plug that plugs into the transformers.

I have seen the Autopia web site, thanks Pete.

Mine came with a standard US plug. I had to cut it off and replace it with one of the large yellow type.

If you search on Detailing World there's a very useful thread telling you precisely what to buy, how much, and where from.

pm me if you want me to search for the link and post it!

Autopia apparently deliver in 3-4 days from the US and most people praise their service...

Please see my site (sponsoring this forum) for pads and backing plates

Regards - Nick.

You need http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=999&MAN=Carroll-And-Meynell-7501-Single-Outlet-Transformer-750va - This

http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=18611&MAN=Draper-110v-14m-X-15mm-Extension-Cable - this

and http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=18237&MAN=Draper-110v-16-Amp-Site-Plug-For-110v-Machines-And-Transformers - this

When your pc comes you will need to cut of the usa 2 pin plug, you then need to put on the new plug, american black is live, and white is neutral, there is no earth as the cable is double insulated, this is a very easy 2 minute job

Prep is the key.

if you put hours and hours into your prep, even with no wax it would look better than a really rough car with the most expensive stuff splattered on top everytime.

get the prep right and your laughing, with the proter cable, the prep is a doddle, and with a darker car like your 318is then your shine should be deep enough to jump into

lots of experience, zaino and a porter cable can get you this

i should add that this was not done by me but by c76jon, and its shepsevo3 car

Yep, one is on its way thanks.     Still got 110v plugs and cables from when I worked in the construction game but never kept a transformer sadly. Got a mate sorting me out with one though.
