had a look at a BMW 635 at the weekend, had 160K on it, small bubbles on wheel arch & quite a large rust hole near battery. Otherwise in fairly decent nick. Wanted 1500. Is ithis a good buy or should I steer clear?

Really need a bit more information I'd say.

160000 miles isn't necessarily too troubling.

Rusty inner wings will be expensive to repair and I'd bet that unless it's been fixed you'll need to look at some or all of these places too:-

wings and inner wings;
sills;
screen frames;
roof just to the rear of the sunroof;
the number plate panel;
doors and hinges;
the panel just below the rear lights, and;
the rear arches

Have a look at a few more and compare them. For some E24 specific stuff, have a look here as well:-

There are some good value cars out there and there are some right ropey ones.

But get one.

It sounds like a project - and you can buy any number of 635CSi's
needing work for £5-600. Need to see some pics really or at least know
how old it is!
