I thought I would ask them with all the know.

I will have to be detailing the engine bay on a e24 6. and would like to know the best way of doing it, cleaing up bits and the best way to get the funny covering on metal work it seems to have.

The old 6 is having a lot spent on it and will be a cracking car sadley not mine but will post up some pic's for all to see.

The Guy wonts the car fulley detaled so any addvice would be great.

Thanks Mark

I use gunk and a combination of (paint)brushes to work it into the more ingrained areas..I use a hose rather than a pressure washer to rinse it off..Ive never had any problems with water getting into electrics etc this way..I know people cover these items up in plastic bags to stop water ingress but as i said, no problems with this for me.

As for that wax stuff BMW throw around, apparently petrol will shift it with some brute force and a scourer...the other method ive seen people use is to polish it off using a dremel or similar.
