I'm wondering if there's a quick and easy way of taking out the rear parcel shelf from my e36 coupe? The back window was smashed before and I can hear bits of glass sliding around as I turn corners. I had thought it was under the seats but no. It must be stuck inside the metal frame just under the shelf.

I'd pop the speaker grills off and have a little nosey first, cos there so easy way of doing it without causing damage to the shelf and other bits.

The shelf is pretty much structural in the coupe...

Thats what I've figured. There are a couple of little gaps in the frame work that I can just about get a finger into but haven't managed to feel any glass, but it does sound like it's in there. I might let the seats down and get someone to drive around just to make sure. I could pour some glue in and let the glass stick to that.

Have you tried getting a hoover nosle in there and seing if that might suck some up you may not be seeing?

Alex,

you let the back seats down and remove the two rear bolsters and the black plastic trim that runs along the the edge of the shelf,

then you need to pull seals off the two rear windows, and pop off the interior rear quarter panels (where rear doors would be on a 4dr ) and the c-pillar trims.

With a bit of wiggling the shelf should now come out and the speaker covers can stay on the shelf, they are not holding it in.

Cheers Beemerboy. I'll have to wait til I have a free day to do that but I'll give it a go.

Holes are too small to get a hoover nossel in but I might try attach a hose to it first and give it a shot. Removing the shelf does seem like a lot of work.
