Looks smashing Rob. But if they're being so anal about the BM part of their name it probably won't be allowed.

Doesn't have to be a patriot, something slower will do due to ballast in bread van (lots of bread?)

Thats good as well Rossi but I think there's too many letters in it. Can you try it with just Bavarian-Board written around the edge to see what it looks like.

Im going to be really akward here but can you do up a bavarian version of the old bmw-board logo for comparison?
Im starting to have doubts whether the graphic infringes trademark laws

Killian, not a good idea really... as this will infringe copyright of BMW roundel. As you have stated, the site was asked to remove the BMW-board logo before moving to new hosting with renaming.

I can send you it, but, we can't use it..not much point really.

-------------

Posted By: Rossi
Date Posted: 01-October-2006 at 12:10

you wanted it Killian, here it is..

From my understanding the trademark is in an altered state, so it therefor can not be used.

Looking good, not struck on the gear markers tbh, bit too fifth gear - what would the one above look like without the extra blue/white outer circle? (no tradmark issues then) but will still retain the blue/white of the map.

Bit of a crude crop, but what do you think?

Don't think it contravenes any copyright laws, many cars use a round badge - or is BMW wanting to trademark the wheel as well..

It can be similar but not a direct copy. Only direct copies infringe copyright laws...not similarites to the original. Once done, the designer/owner can copyright the image independently...acceptance of that will also confirm that no copyright infringements were made.

use the flag colours as a base instaed of the BMW
blue??

Like the thinking Bavarian colours

Looking at Wikipedia, entry for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bavaria - Bavaria  shows the region flag as a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Bavaria_%28lozengy%29.svg - blue/white lozengy Pattern

Utter Nonsense.

We're dealing with trademarks and nothing to do with copyright anyway.

Best to stay away from blue and white chequer pattern inside a circle.

I'd suggest staying away from propeller type things inside circles irrespective of colours.  Rhys's should be OK, but as KB has had contact with BMW's lawyers, he should ask them for advice.  They want to protect their clients' trademarks and should be prepared to tell him whether or not a design will infringe.

I agree, things can get a bit blurred - just have to remember that their pockets are far deeper than most (ie, they can afford more/better lawyers). Also best to stay away from hockey sticks and kidney grills as well.

Yes, and how do you suggest I go about picking the model for the silouette????

Too many E numbers to count, not good for you!

I can see thepits ranting..'IT SHOULD BE A E30 M3 SILOUETTE'....

OK then....

How about using a group meet photo of a few cars, maybe in negative format, with the name of the site as it is now either above or below the photo.

Nice and easy, descriptive and without stepping on toes

Thanks Goldryder input appreciated, but I think the logo needs to be simple and used for different purposes i.e. vinyl stickers, website pages etc..

I was thinking of a two coloured theme idea to reduce manufacturing costs.

Nice one Rossi. Version 8 looks the best to me. You could try putting the web address where the automotive need bit is. If you have nothing better to do that is. Thank God we're not paying for this. It'd cost a fortune.

Also, how about a solid outline around the whole thing. Round the left side and squared off on the right side if you get me. Would make a nice car sticker, badge etc.

And for Gods sake man, hurry up!
