Is anyone familar with the e28 m535i wiring harness,

SInce recently converting my e24 auto to manual using the m535i as a donor car i have now re installed the Auto gearbox and all ancillarys into the m535i with a view to get it running with the sports auto as its essentially a good straight car , i have also removed all the Auto,s wiring loom and ECU from my E24, it was a pain to get out and i have lost my elec windows somewere along the way but thats for another day :0/..anyway i have managed unplug everthing and remove it after practically taking the dash out @@.

I havent had time to look into the e28 loom as yet and i can already see that the ECU,s is on the opposite side of the dash to my car but does anyone whos stripped an E28 know if the  manual harness will have the blanks/plugs left in the loom to suit an auto setup also???

Im hoping it will as i dont think il be able to wire it up to work otherwise unless i get a wiring diagram for the Auto circuit.

Second question is my E24 no longer starts on the crank position which i got a terrible shock to find after completing the job and was ready to show off to everyone of a first time start up!!,Nothing.. i suspect that the ECU doesnt think the car is in P or N i remember someone with an E30 posting a similar problem. Would anyone agree this is the case or better still identify which wires need to be joined/Earthed.

Thanks for any suggestions, Photos to come

Rory

there are two ECU pins that are connected on auto, not on manual (or is it theother way round??)

with the auto loom the gear lever switch harness plug needs two pins joining in it

finally could it be the immobiliser relay?

cheers

I have actually removed all the Auto loom from the E24 but it did "T" into the engine mgmt ECU loom just outside the ECu so id imagine this is were the problem lies.

I cant see why it would be the immobiliser i have operated the alarm and re tried to no avail. it would make sense that the engine ECU would need to know weathar the car is in P or N before it would crank so your prob right on it being a matter of just 2 pins . i had the car running today by bridging the starter and iut runs fine, just need to add all the new fluids and bleed them and test drive it.

I should add that i have also lost all my electric windows somewere along the way after i refitted the centre console, there was a black push button under the radio that i presumed did nothing as its unmarked so i didnt re-connect he 2 wires into it so hopefully that will sort that problem. HAs any one else this button? when pushed so it comes out you can see red around the edge of it.

That's the circuit breaker. If you have red showing, that means your windows get tripped out. Push it back in again.

Ah ha,

Nice one Horsetan That would certainly explain it! Il do it tomorrow when i might be actually clean enough to work inside the car, trying to finish chassis stuff on both cars first.

The Starter circuit may take a little more probing to sort,
