After only....ooh... two years in my possession, I finally got round to getting myself a set of part-worn tyres today, and couldn't wait to get stuck in

It was only when I'd enthusiastically gone round the lot and had them all on that I began to suspect something might be wrong. So, have I fitted the wrong wheels on the wrong sides?  See below:

I'd also take this opportunity to confirm that there's absolutely feck-all clearance behind the front pair of wheels.....

It looks like they're ok, but there again..maybe not.(BMW Style 21's Shooting Stars)

maybe it's the angle at which the photo's have been taken..

I really need a definitive answer on this one.

It was only when I had a shower afterwards that a horrible realisation struck me.....

ok, they are the right way round , but they don't suit the car. Multispoke for a classical car IMHO

Quote Alpina's would or BBS cross spokes.

I'm not paying nine hundred quid for genuine Alpinas. Cross-spokes can forget it because I don't want to spend an entire day cleaning them.

Look right to me: re: mine also (ie. picture left). . . .

re: classical car. Nah, that's "classical music" versus a "classic" car". Different thing altogether.  I say: Here's to those very fine wheels! Hey, but I would . . .

Ivan,i think they look ok but IMO i think the six looks nice on x-spokes or alpina's but thats my opinion.

However they are easy to clean!!!

If you think they look ok keep them,i say!

another way of putting it is: Yes the wheels are the right way round but, they're on the wrong car IMHO

Hey, you've waited 2 years to fit them - so enjoy them!!!

You have taken the picture when the wheels still have the soapy lube they paint on the tyre rims. Wait until thats gone, and they are a bit worn in, and they will look fine. I would prefer your wheels to a cheap replica set of alpinas with the steering bouncing everywhere!

I am sure the improvement in ride will be huge.

Regarding the clearance behind the front wheels - does it rubb on full lock, or on any lock that is?

So you're tight and lazy.

I'm a bit like that myself so I went for Style 32's which have an Alpina look to them but are cheaper (& easier to clean) and seem to suit the car rather well (so I'm told).

I'll reserve comment on your wheels as I know how touchy you get when someone tells you they're a crap choice!

You may want to fit some thin spacers to improve clearance issues but don't go too thick.

I think the wheels might be on the wrong sides... as they are called throwing stars i thought the longer "fin" of the spoke should point in the direction of rotation... as you can (just) see here:

I think they look alright, who says you have to have old style wheels on an old style car!!

Yeah, almost the perfect credentials for a Geordie living in the middle of nowhere (for which, read somewhere in the "Yaarksher" Dales)

Ah, right so, I get it now.....

Trick photography; you have to get the angles right, the colours and the gradients, and a lot more if your using a SLR.

If you spent a bit of time, and drove it to a field etc etc, the pics would make your 6 look a whole lot better.

Ivan, a little tyrewall black, a bit of spit and polish on the bodywork, an inch off the ride height, and a bit of photographic magic (location, location location...?) and I'm sure your trusty steed will look the dog's.

-But don't get sucked into the awful world of concours, -per-lease!

I went to the BMWCC GB meet at Gaydon, and yes, it was nice to see some shiny cars, (and yes, I even polished mine- a bit like buffing up a big turd, I know...) but I have to say I worry a little about the mental heath of some...

Five minute after arriving, some cars were in the air with the wheels off, the wheelarches being cleaned with toothbrushes etc. Polishing the insides of the exhaust pipes. I could go on, but my head may implode....

At least there were not too many who's cars arrived on trailers, I suppose...

cheers

Oh I couldn't be bothered with all that cleaning malarky.. Squirt a bit of fairy on the roof the next time it slings it down - that does me...

(or the local jet wash if I'm feeling adventerous)

Ivan, take some more pics of your car - might look better second time round (straight side on pics)

It needs a darker day. Bright sun fools a digital camera into making a burgundy car look brown.....

There are some cars that only come out for concours....
