Well done Killian (and anyone else that may have helped) for changing the name and getting this forum up and running again without loosing all the threads. I think the new name and logo are great too.

i take my hat off to you m8 , it will be better in the long run .. i read your posts on the e30 owners and that how i knew the new address .. the new logos look better than the old ones

i take it they were just being plain petty now , as they hung up on you !!!!

like the other guys says  go see your lawyer .. ;)

chris

p.s. does that now mean we can have a detailing section and a classified section

p.s.s didn't see the point in starting a new topic for the same reason so i just posted here rather than the scottish one ...

Killian and the team: Well done, chaps!

Superb work at getting it all back up and running again so quickly!

FWIW, I wrote an email today to Andrew Dale expressing my displeasure at the way the club has handled the whole affair...
Doubt it will have any impact, but I am stunned to hear that they "stole" your domain name.

Sounds like a job for the domain name registrar!

Hi all,

since buying my 99 E39 520i 3 months ago I have been an avid "lurker" of these forums. There are the most valuable source of accurate and useful information in this part of the world.

I was toying with the idea of registering and joining "the club". Now let me think about joining "the club" - eh no.

However as you can see I have registered for the real forum! I have done this for a number of reasons :

1) to show my support for this forum

2) to point out that "the club" has definitely lost a potential member

3) I did not feel it was appropriate to remain viewing these forums unregistered over the coming months seeing as bandwidth usage is such a potential costly issue for the forum administrator.

Great work Killian - I hope this remains such a useful resource.

Don't have ITV.   Haven't seen an F1 race in a year and a half. Have to wait 'til Duke Video bring out the season review.

Great work by all in a very emotional atmosphere. Killian, I hope you are able to retain the original forum name, even if never used again. Just to make sure that shower of cleps in the club are made fully aware that they cannot bully people around.

After reading the original topic about the closure issue, i was honestly sickened, that I had parted hard earned money, to provide the club with the platform they have, to be able to conduct themselves in such an abhorrent manner.

Top stuff for getting the new forum up and going, hopefully it will lead to a better community spirit and renewed energy to reverse the damage that the club have done to this fine site.

Be Safe and Prosper !

Good job Killian and the team.  Good to see Howard Walker back as well.

I know you've been very busy but don't give the club any ammunition.  Be very sure that you are happy that you know who owns the database and it might be wise to remove any mention of the car club in the forum listings. "Home of the former BMW Car Club Forum" might be better than "Former home of the BMW Car Club Forum".  A disclaimer saying that this site has absolutely no affiliation or association with BMW Car Club GB etc. might also be wise.

Unfortunately in corporate legal matters, it is rarely the side with right on its side who wins.  It's usually the side with most money.

I tried to find us yesterday but must have logged off just before the e-mail came last night.

Well done Killian!!

Am I still alright using the new forum to promote my sort of club activity?

..and where is the long thread that got the rug pulled.. I don't think I finished reading it all.

Good to be back.. but I'm off to work now.. I shall be back later.

Yes you can - we shall onle censor offensive stuff, etc. This forum is for BMW owners/lovers who want to discuss BMWs and BMW any related stuff.
In the coming days we shall also set up an adverts forum as we have no financial mandate.

edit: the big thread was pulled as it contained a number of posts by someone which I would like to keep safe.

That would *probably* cover the database I'd think but if they want to make an issue of it, the logo is probably a bit too similar.

Basically, could a reasonable man stumbling on here reasonably think that he was on the BMW Car Club forum?

"BMW-Board / [BMW CC Forums] " might be better altered.

The commercial adverts on the first page should probably go as well unless they paid you and not the club or you've been in touch with them.  It looks very very similar to the old first page. You also have a potential  issue with the advertisers here who may want to keep their association with the club and not be seen to support the splinter group.

These are just suggestions, not criticisms.

I will remove the index.asp page with the adverts when I return home.
I kept it there as I (possibly incorrectly) felt that the advertisers paid for exposure which they were not otherwise getting.

Pfft. I was enjoying the fight.

All the best with the "new" site. I'm sure all the useful info will remain here, & the club's own forum can be used for announcing the next "champagne run", etc.

PS Can someone remind me what the "2p Beemers" comment was exactly? We're going to have some fun with that over at the E30Zone... nothing malicious, just something for Gaydon.

No it's a fair point and one I didn't consider, but if they paid the club and not you, it's the club's problem.

If it was you who brought the adverts on board and you want advertising on here, it may be worth speaking to the advertisers.

I'm assuming you'll kill or amend the Google stuff so that you get the income and not the club?

You've got so much to remember, I'm just trying to be an online aide memoire. Keep up the good work.

I had to refer all advertisers to the office. I was then instructed to add a new banner every so often
As for the google adverts. They are under my name now!

Good work lads, I tried to log on yesterday or teh day before but it said "Page does not exist" or "domain does not exist" so i thought the forum had gone down briefly, found an email in my junk email box (it thought it was spam) saying about this place, I must say, it looks really well!

Fair play to Killian for all your hard work, its great to see the place up & running so soon.

I like the new signature Killian.

How can Jeff Heywood send me a letter in the post today telling me he wanted to set the record straight

Its plain and simple bullying is what the BMW Car Club have done regarding our forum.

I've little doubt the site will now be much much better because of it's independence from the communist dictatorial state.

Oh, and yes, now that you're not linked to them - I'm back.
