I have a 728i series 2 (facelift model) 1999 T reg.

When i bought the car the phone was missing. However the dealer managed to get hold of the correct phone (motorola 8700). My car doesnt recognise it. I cannot use the hands free facility within the car, yet when i switch on the ignition it powers up and finds my telephone network. When i go to use the hands free system it just keeps saying "please switch on the telephone" even though it is on.

Any ideas????

It's possible that it might need to be coded into the car like almost every other direct replacement component (AC panel tv radio etc,) though I would have expected the dealer to have cracked on to this.
