Folks,
What are you experiences of selling cars lately? I have had my Z3 up for sale for 4-5 weeks (carzone and CBG.ie) and haven't even had one call, not even a time waster or canvasser (and yes the number is correct) the price seems right to me, its the cheapest '02 car advertised and is at least 3 grand less than main dealer prices.

I am suprised that I have had no enquires.

My last Z3 was a 2.8 which I thought would be hard to sell yet sold straight away!

Any thoughts

Jon

Time of the year. Summer hols etc. But I would have thought perfect time for selling a rag top.

my 2002 ti is up for sale too. 2K cheaper than anyone else private and 4K less than any dealer on carzone. No calls either. Pity, cos it's obviously a great time to be buying!

A friend of mine is having the same problem with an Audi A4 TDi.  Fos sale for 2 months now on Carzone, but no bites.  Was also in B&S for a while.

Tell me about it. I've had my jeep up on carzone for 3 months. Only had my first call today. Timewaster. Maybe a lot of people are waiting for their SSIA's to mature rather then borrowing all the cash.

I was advertizing a soft top car for my sister fromlate May.  Put it on Carzone, Sunday Times, B&S and a run in the Irish Times.  Had a couple of calls in the first few weeks on Carzone and then absolutely nothing, even after a couple of price cuts.  The price was fairly right and the time of year was right, but no joy.  With the sun shining of late she has changed her mind and is keeping it.  Will test the water soon with her other car, an e46 328i Touring.

I did have one guy wanting to know if she'd take a Mercedes E500 as a part ex!  Can't imagine there would be a queue around the block for a secondhand one of those!

Its become the general attitude for Irish people to go to UK to buy without even looking at whats about over here. Its killing the market.

Personally, I prefer trying to keep Irish money in ireland.

My wife is trying to sell a Citroen Picasso (2002), and her business partner is trying to sell a 2004 X-Trail. They have company vans on order. Not a single call for either, in nearly 2 months.

It's obviously the SSIA's. I think people are thinking that they can buy a new car, instead of getting a used one.

Hi folks, been a while since I posted here...

Yeah, currently selling my 323ci on carzone/cbg not a single nibble, even though it is in for a bargain... Just going to take the pain and take a trade in against a sensible family car..  I've had it up (ahem, the car that is ) for over 6 weeks at this stage...

The silver lining is once its gone I can take me new E30 325 cabrio out of the garage!

Plus, its a little differnet buying a car in the UK and going to study Overseas.... (plus and its a big plus.... Theres no thai women around lucan!! Anything I ever saw had big gold hoopy earrings, a couple of soverigns and a pram!!)

Redbag - in fairness, 6 weeks isn't a long time for a car like a 323Ci so don't be disheartened.  The market for bigger engined cars is relatively small so it can take a while.  What you usually find is that its all quiet for a while and then, a bit like waiting for a bus, you get several potential buyers at once.  You only need one to buy it.

A Copper company. Whats that got to do with Helicopters? Anyway, we've all heard about those Thai "women". If thats what you're looking for then enjoy yourself.

Depends on the car. My mum sold a '98 Toyota Corrola in 2002. She put it into the Irish Times for 1 issue. It was sold, paid for and gone the next day.

Ok If this guy came to me after saying that, no matter how much money he had I wouldnt sell it to him!! I am sad to see it go but I'm giving myself 3 months to sell it. Should be plenty!!

The car is considerably faster than a standard M3. Its CSL quick. Its not a car that would be very forgiving. A mate sold a car to a guy (400bhp Sierra Cosworth) and the new owner killed himself in it 3 weeks later. Its still on the chaps concience. Dont tell me that I wouldnt sell it to somebody like that no matter how much money they had.

If your misus loves you she'll be glad that you have bought yourself a very very expensive plaything, and not at all upset with the fact that the house extension that you've been promising her for ages will have to wait indefinitely. And she'll just love it when you take her for a drive and go sideways around roundabouts and on tight corners, smoke the wheels at traffic lights and show her how good the brakes are by slamming on at the last second.

I was being slightly sarcastic. I'd love an M3 (I could only afford an e36) but the misus has other plans.

At the moment I have to support me, her and her stupid horse. When she finally finishes college and gets a job then I'll go for an e46 M3 or similar.

It's on carzone. 316ti 2002, 90K, black. It's a Dublin car, came from Maxwells.

I sold my last car in 4 weeks on carzone, but only after reducing the price twice and taking ablout 3000 less than other private car sales of the the same model-it was a 99 316i coupe. I only call i got was from the guy who eventualy bought it.

I went to the Uk to buy my 325 Ci Sport, as I could not find one in good enough condition or with the right specs in Ireland. I did travel to Dublin to look at one, but after a bit of enquiry into the service history, it turned out that it had been clocked. Advertised as 53,000 miles-really had 113,000... I also got my car for 1500 euro less than what i would have done in Ireland, even after payin for ferry, flights and accomodation for 2 people and 8350 euro on VRT (which is a load of S***E)!

The english know how to look after their cars so it is worth it..

On another note:

No more VFR pilots!! Ye have me driven mad in SHA Low level   Only messing, best of luck in Thailand.

I found it very quiet on the second hand market side of things, I sold my 2003 Golf TDI (150bhp) finally on thursday night it was on carzone for 5 months, the mileage was high but I sold it for €14.5k and cars of the same spec with lesser miles are advertised for €20-22k.

Everybody seems to be buying new cars

Actually better than nice. There is a 328 cab 2001 with 36K on it for just €31K on carzone at mo. So given it's such a dead time to be selling he's done very well for himself!

We should sort out a car swap service while we wait for the market to pick up. Anybody want to swap an 635csi for my 316ti for a month or so?

Don't know... I didn't see that car on the road the whole time in London. But then when I get out it is always parked beside my bros car. Very odd.

There's no accounting for taste. If thats what he wants let him have it. Maybe he should consider a 760?

I am suprised that I have had no enquires.

My last Z3 was a 2.8 which I thought would be hard to sell yet sold straight away!

Any thoughts

Jon

So, a week on. Any calls? Think we all should have bought Fiat Punto's not Beemers. They seem to fly off carzone. Just bought one for the kid and was actually in a bidding war for it!

I've knocked another €500 off mine in a bid to generate some interest. Wouldn't mind but it was a bit of a bargain to start with. Have you tried posting a free ad on Boards.ie? Mines getting much more frequent views than the ad I have on carzone. Mind you, it still hasn't resulted in any calls so they might just be window shoppers.

Ok I've added it to Buy and Sell, it is free but you have to renew every issue.

Date Posted: 11-July-2006 at 16:36

Buy and sell is the way to go, as it's free and all you have to do is fax off the details.

I would try Auto Trader mag aswell. Any car i've ever sold, i've sold using them. People tend to pick up these mags at service stations etc. so i think it's worth the money for a couple of weeks at least.

I don't know anyone who has bought a car off the net! Just because you and i use the net, doesn't mean the potential buyer does.

Carzone is great for selling 'coz you can put loads of pics up. But put it in the Buy & Sell as well. If someone phones you can tell them to have a look on the net at the pics.

I've spoken to a few people now about Carzone - including one guy who is now selling cars for a living. All agreed that Carzone is the ultimate window shoppers site. The Autotrader, CBG and B&S all yield better results as you're hitting the people who don't do their car shopping ove rthe internet as well.

The real annoying thing with Autotrader is that there are so many cars from the North in it. I think a Republic only issue is due. CBG is only good if you are buying a second hand car from a dealer as the private ads are crap. The buy & sell is still good though.

Sold a 2000 Puma just before christmas last within a week of sticking it on carzone. Little blonde girl paid full asking price too.

That's part of the reason I'm surprised it's so quiet. Nobody buys a car the week before Christmas! It's another year old come Jan 1st!

Ive never actually seen more cars for sale with contact details in their windows, are dealer refusing to take in trade in's on the grounds that they wont sell?, I recon the second hand market apart from the Punto brigade is dead in the water and totally saturated everyone has copped on that you can get better and cheaper in the UK even after the crippling VRT and all the kids want brand new cars at this stage all getting themselves in extraordanary dept for brand new s!*t boxes. If and when the overheating economy finally melts down the repo man is going to be quare busy!

Finally got my Audi sold after almost 5 months on Carzone.  Guy rang me Sat. night came up from Cork Sunday morning and drove off with it about half hour later.  it was well below what other similar cars were on Carzone.  Put it in the B&S got a couple calls but nothing definite.

I still have it  Its in CBG and Carzone, I had one call a week ago from a lady who "would love to come and see it but I'll have to check with my husband first" - I haven't heard from her since....

Can't understand it at all, its the cheapest '02 Z3 advertised its got a better spec than most, BMWSH, new NCT etc and the best summer we've had for years whats wrong with people can't they see a bargain when it runs them over....

Quote Surprised it's not yielded better luck on the Z3 especially with the weather and Ballina123's Z is very nice. -Only for not enough water to wash it, eh Jon !!! Damn drought.

My buy & sell "purchaser" came over to see the car last monday week, loved it, spent time driving it, checking out the paperwork, looking at panel gaps etc. Shook hands at €13,000, left me a €100 cash deposit and promised to turn up last Friday with the balance. I, stupidly, never saved his number (You kind of assume that anyone giving you cash is going to be alright). I haven't heard from him since! It's driving me nuts! I've already put his cash down as a deposit on another car and now I've had to stall the deal.

He can S*D off if he thinks he's going to get it back.

It's back languishing on carzone now. Wouldn't mind so much but it's such a waste of a really good little car for it just to be sitting in my driveway!

Sometimes the market is slow depending what you are selling for example..............

put my e36 coupe on the net on mon 31st. july so far not one call....

put the wifes 95 mitsy lancer 1.6 glxi on the same time had about 20 calls and it was sold yesterday afternoon 'tues' one and a half days on the net must be a record. I consider my e36 far more superior than the lancer. So now i have to listen to the smart comments and the he he he's from her. I'am sick
