Upon returning from holiday, the battery on my bmw was totally flat, i jump started it with no problem. However now the on board computer is only showing pppp on the display, how do i clear this?. Hopefully this is a silly one as it was totally fine before i went away. Also can you change from farenheight to  to centigrade on the temperature display, i have tried variuous button pushing, but to no avail.

You need to set the date & time first.

In "consumption" cycle through US mpg, km/litre to (UK) mpg. In UK mode the temp will show Farenheit & in metric it will show Centigrade. Think US shows F too.

My onboard computer has never worked, and shows the same display pppp and various other garbage on all functions. I have set the time and date successfully but still none of the other functions work (except the stopwatch)!!

Have set clock & date, but still showing pppp in display for consumption and temp. Have tried holding down the reset button with no sucsess. BMW told me i would have to book the car in for the computer to be reset. Does anybody no if this is the only way it can be rectified, or is there a simple way i can reset it myself ?.

Same symptoms as mine, I couldn't find anything in the owner's handbook when I looked, despite there being several pages on the OBC. When i spoke to my mechanic he seemed to think it needed to go to BMW or a new computer. Anyway, I'll have another look at the manual and let you know if i find anything!!

Just looked in the Bentley manual & it says the "pppp" is an error code that needs to be cleared by the dealer/specialist.

My car is due for an oil service in the next few weeks, so will get my dealer to sort the problem then. Will let you know the outcome, and more importantly the cost.

Nice one, although I have to say that in some ways I would rather not have the MPG function working... ignorance is bliss etc !!

I had the same problem. In the end, Munich Legends had to replace the OBC (£45 for an old unit, plus fitting which was chafing). They said - from memory - it was something to do with the 'code key' failing. And also said that this was quite common.

my obc doesnt work. the previous owner said it had been disconnected. I suspected this would be either via the fuse, or the wide connector on the back? i have checked the fuse box, and no fuse is blown or missing, and the connector is in the back.is there anywhere else you can feasibly disconnect the obc. It doesnt light up or anything. it apparently worked, but showed an "error message". probably pppp like others saying here?
