Was watching this on EBay a few weeks ago and didn't get round to bidding - doh. So missed it, so I contacted the seller just in case it fell through - and it has as the aux fan didn't work so the guy offered £500 to him !

He's offered £775? It's a 530i auto V8, black leather (manual, but in good nick), 160k, alpine 6cd changer, Calypso red, service history up to 150k, air con.

How economical are these beasts? (probably slightly better than my old 7) and is it an easy enough job to change the the aux fan?

And what do you think?

Will try and get some pictures, just waiting for them

Nice one. Thats one hell of a car for £775. Very handsome beast. Great cars the E34's. I'll have to keep my eye open for it if you get it as I work in Stockport. Good luck,  Steve.

Does it have a Nikasil block?

If so, it'll be much more than £775 to repair if compression goes...

Sorry to dampen the flames a little....

<edit> now I look at the mileage, probably worth the gamble anyway - you'd be very unlucky for it to rear its ugly head on a car thats gone that far...

I thought about that, and took the mileage into consideration - but for that price I'm going for it

Not sure if it has the Nikasil block - will trawl trough the receipts when I get it - is there an easy way to see if it has though?

I only know about the copper tag that would be on an Alusil block at the back of the block near the firewall on the nearside, but I've never seen a V8 with that, only M52 engines.

NB Mine's a Nikasil too (M52) and I'm not worried!

Then again I paid a few thousand for my car and so will take the hit for a new block if the current one karks it.

Give BMW HO at Bracknell a call and they should be able to let you know. Of course you need the VIN and possibly the engine number.

Can anyone help with the Aux Fan? As it's seized on this car

I think this kicks in when the Air Con is turned on? Is this true?

Do these really cost about £300?

Or do any of you fine people have a spare or know where I can get one

yep this fan runs or is supposed to whenever the air con is on but also there is a two stage temperature switch on the side of the radiator which operates it aswell ... my fan was seized so i have pumped it full of wd40 using straws to get it in behind the fan it has freed up quite a bit and does run when powered directly on high speed relay but still to stiff to work as it should (keeps poping fuses)..... i have seen one on ECP website for £144.00 plus vat so might end up getting that as my aircon works and having black leather + sun = my ass burning
let me know what you do, or if anyone else has advice all is welcome
regards

chaz

The low speed circuit on my 6's aux fan had burnt out. £123 for a complete new fan. I'd heard they were $300 + too.

There are two makes used, Bosch being one of them.

They only cut in if the a/c is used but the Bently manual indicates it will start itself it needed in hot traffic conditions.

Jon Morgan at Prestige German Cars sourced & fitted it.

Link to his site or tech queries are from our club site http://www.bmwclubne.co.uk - BMW Club North East .

He'll know which Six you're talking about.

With luck it'll be the same part no.

Fingerman,

I have the same car, I didn't like the colour when I picked it up from Glasgow but, it was dirty, Washed & polished when I got it back to Kent.

What a difference..

you will love the grunt of the V8 too.

it's such a refined car you don't realise how fast it is until you see cars behind disappearing in your mirrors

In sports mode, it will rev above and beyond the redline (which is at 6250 RPM) with ease.

I had a little hesitation at high revs a few weeks ago, I have dosed the petrol up with redex type stuff and all is fine now .

I'm in to over 18,000 miles in 11 months with this car and  touch wood ,all it has cost me is oil & tyres

Enjoy

Glasgow to Kent - Jesus that's a bit of a trek!

Picking her up on friday and looking forward to the V8 again - the low rumble is sweet, I think it's the same engine as my 730 was - haven't had chance to check yet

And hopefully shouldn't have too many issues, but for that price I'm happy - I'll be keeping the 520 for a bit until the 530 is in tip top shape
