Date Posted: 18-April-2006 at 07:36

Hi all,

I've checked this doesn't clash with any M3 events but if this isn't in the right place, mods please move/delete as appropriate.

This will be a rolling road day looking at the differences between all the E30 M3s and 320is that share the lovely S14

The day will be held at Northampton Motorsport http://83.138.170.26/northamptonmotorsport/ - http://83.138.170.26/northamptonmotorsport/  on the 20th May, starting at 9.00am and costs £30 each. Max of 35 cars with just the 1 power run each which measures power (both wheels and fly) and torque with a graph printout. For the mag feature we'll focus on about 15 cars (most likely ranging from standard to mild and wild mods).

Those who would like to attend, could you post here (or PM if you'd rather) with name, car, engine derivative, mods (if any), mileage and just to be really anal - type of fuel used. Oh and if you could post what kind of power and torque you're expecting, that would be cool.

Any questions, please feel free to ask away as I'm sure I've missed something

1. Team TBMW and The Ewok - non-cat 200bhp model, Supersprint Race system, BTB prototype DTM manifold, DTM-style carbon airbox, Catcams 283/283 cams, Alpha N, 178,000 Kms, Optimax. Anticipated results - 240bhp, 185lbf.ft torque.

2. Kevin McNally M3 Evo2, standard, 108,000 kms, Optimax. Anticipate/ hope for 220 bhp and 180 lb/ft torque.

3. Steve Singleton, Sport Evo with Motec EMS and Milltek exhaust. Anticipate 190BHP@ Wheels (240@fly) 180 bl/ft torque.

4. Simon & Tony Oke - 1988 E30 320is, 64000kms, standard apart from SuperSprint exhaust, runs on Optimax, not sure on outputs but would hope for 180ish at the flywheel (150ish at the wheels).

5. Simon 1990 M3 215bhp, 175000km, Supersprint race exhaust, rest standard, would like to see 215bhp! Oh, run on normal Shell unleaded as optimax is hard to find around here!

6. Julz Angell...1987 M3 153,000Km, 195bhp CAT all standard on regular BP unleaded fuel. Anticipate standard figures or thereabouts.

7. Uwe Brunzel 1987 M3 230k kms with engine rebuild. Stock EVO3 bottom end, 215 head, 48mm throttles, EVO3 Valve Springs, 290/290 KK cams, stock exhaust no cats, MAXX ALpha-N with stock air filter, 330cc injectors. Optimax or any other 98 ROZ petrol. Last dynoed with 248bhp and 200lbs(without AN)

9. John Howell, 1988 M3 149,000km schrick cams 285/285,Alpha-N cf airbox, supersprint exhaust, optimax, last dyno 254bhp @ flywheel, no reading for torque but would expect about 175/180.

11. Dave DMX 2.5 Sport Evo engine approx 35k on rebuild. Shrick 284/ 272(E3). 215 manifold, miltec, Optimax and who knows what management. Currently the Motec is not installed and running std setup but the wiring is all still there, if the guy who wants to buy it hasn't taken it i'll hook it back up. Last dyno 260bhp / 190t at Powerstation (optimistic?) Wouldn't expect more than 240 if the Montronic is on it though.

12. Martin Howard-Smith. 90k Sport Evo with 284/276 cams Maxx A/N and CF Airbox. Last dyno run was 244 @crank and 181 torque on Bexleys dyno. The car was mapped on 95 ron, but I run it on Optimax.

15. Aaron Weddell. 1986 E30 M3, standard except Milltek exhaust with (drum roll please) 300,000km on the clock. I'd expect about 185bhp at the fly.  And possibly to have the lowest reading of the day!

had a little browse on Northampton Motorsports website.
They offer quite a lot of other stuff too. Might be worth talking to them if they would just do a setup to weigh our cars on the day. No adjustments, just on the scales and corner weights and total weight printed out.
Wouldn't mind to pay a little extra for that. Nick?

Cheers Dave, added you to the list.

Uwe, it's certainly a possiblity but I just think it will complicate things... we'll probably be struggling for time as it is (depending on final numbers obviously) although there is the potential to do this at the end if there is time.

Okay, my arm is twisted. I should be able to make this one.

Currently the Motec is not installed and running std setup but the wiring is

Nick, I maybe up for this with my Evo2. Although there is a little attention needed before I can commit.

Its a standard Evo2 with a Dastek Uni-Q fitted and AFM removed. Dunno what power to expect as had some issues recently with it, but should be atleast standard 220BHP. Made 226BHP and 170ftlbs ATF on Dasteks rollers when Gerry mapped it. Was mapped on BP Ultimate, but running on Tesco's 97 at the moment.

Guys,

Made a slight cockup on this one... I've actually got another event to attend that day

Obviously I'd like to be there with the Ewok but I don't want to have to alter the date just to suit my needs, so what do people want to do? Move the date forward a week perhaps or stick to it and I'll send a freelancer along...?

Well, I was going to dap upto Gerry in Fife before this meet to get my Evo2 remapped and rectify the very lean idle and lean fueling upto 2500 RPM. (long story involving a faulty barometric sensor) I was looking forward to it especially as my car feels better than it ever has at the top end, but also I wanted to see Ewok on the rollers as personally I am very interestind in making the same mods with the Evo2 in the not too distant future (CF Airbox, BTB Ex man, etc)

I would struggle to get up there, although I would take a couple of days off and journey up there to have it done if the date doesn't change, I would appreciate a later date.

I'd like to hold a dyno day at my place of work in the not too distant future, although I wanted to combine it with some sort of track day here too. We are close to having a new state of the art dyno installed too.

Might be able to get a freelancer to take the Ewok up... not entirely sure that's such a good idea though

Suppose I could always come and do the first run in the morning and then scoot off to where I need to be and let a freelancer do the rest of the words.

Aaron is going to cover the event and I'll bring the Ewok just for the morning. Sorry, I know it seems rude to turn up and leave straight away but.. it's the best I can do

Yup, I'm going to cover it so put me down for a slot:

1986 E30 M3, standard except Milltek exhaust with (drum roll please) 300,000km on the clock.

I'd expect about 185bhp at the fly.  And possibly to have the lowest reading of the day!

Last time I had it dynoed (about a year ago) it had about 185bhp and 172 lb/ft of torque which personally I think is pretty tidy.

Not to start the whole Fifth Gear thing off again but I will just reiterate that comparing my car to the leaderboard is somewhat unreasonable as I saw the absolute ragging the press cars get and the way they are chucked about.  It's a bit like the old, what's the fastest car you've ever driven?  Answer: a hire car!

But anyway, looking forward to meeting you guys!

May not be able to make this with the Evo2, in the bodyshop right now and will probably get let down on when its gonna be ready. If not, I may bring the Sport Evo along.....Completely standard, engine done about 20,000 miles, 2.5ltr with 2.3 crank so not expecting 238BHP, but approx 220BHP . Currently on Superchipped ECU, but may have been mapped with a Unichip by the day? Standard BMW exhaust, cams, air plenum, AFM still fitted, standard!

Nick...
I still want to attend, but I have a job to do that doesn't finish until 8am that morning...
By the time I get home (to Reading) it will be 10.30-11am. That means the earliest I could realistically be in Northampton will be about 1pm.

Is that gonna be too late? If so, I'll have to cry off...otherwise I'll dash it and be there as soon as is possible...

Nick, I would have loved to have brought the Evo2, as that one was really, really flying! But, its been fully stripped for some rot and minor repairs. I am up Dastek this Thurs/Friday with my Sport Evo and going to have Gerry fit a Uni-Q to it (I wish they'd hurry up and release them, I'd do it myself )

[EDIT] So I will be bringing that, not the Evo2. [EDIT]

Also while I am there, we are also fitting one to an E36 M3 which has been Supercharged too, this may run into Saturday, so maynot be there? It would have to be a last minute decision

If there are some spare slots would you mind a bit of variety? My mate has a Alfa GTV 3L V6 that he would like to bring? Hes well into BMWs (tutored by me!) and would like to see what some of you guys have been up to, he likes sticking his car on the RR so if there are empty slots he would be glad to fill one for you?!?

Simon - might be a bit of a convoluted route for me... perhaps we can meet up half way there... maybe somewhere along the M50?

Just been pointed to this,

Might be able to come not 100%, but im a little worried about the RR, looking on their website im not too happy with the way they have been strapping the cars down, so i will go along and assess the situation on the day after i see how some of your cars are tested.

So nick add me as a Maybe on the day.

Jon, Buckets,

We might as well all meet up and travel togather.

My be an Idea to run up the M11, A14 and either join the M1 or continue up the A1m and then cross country. Uwe`s going so we could possibly meet him on route as well.

Only going to cruise up there.

Regards,

Dave

Passing through from Cumbria. What time are you leaving?

just working that one out, stafford is 80miles from northampton and AA route finder reckons it will take 1hr 20min to get there so were thinking of leaving at 7-7:30, give us some leeway. does that suit you?

cool, just a warning about the M6, there digging it up (when aren't they!) inbetween junc 15-14 and 13-12, there 40MPH zones with average speed cameras, there only a short sections, about 3-4 miles.
