E36 starting problem

I've just tried to start the car and it won't. Sounds like the starter motor is spinning - makes noise like a machine gun.

Anybody had similar problem?

Any ideas?

I live in south Essex and would appreciate name / tel. no. of a non-franchised specialist to take it to.

My Old E30 318i LUX had a similar problem, turned out to be a nearly knackered battery. New battery cured the problem
