Derek
dunno if you heard (in france?) but the gardai caught a major car theft ring in our area. The http://www.rte.ie/news/2003/0707/cars.html">news was a bit patchy but it was based in North Kildare (and dealt with by Blanchardstown plod) if you want to find out who they are and round up a possee!

KB, one of the lads told me about it when I got back, the annoying thing is when the Gards arrived they said they thought they knew who'd done it but wouldn't be able to prove it!!

It would be nice to exact some stress relief on them - especially after seeing the old beastie back up on ebay a couple of weeks back.

Prosperous (5 mins from track (north)) (coming from celbridge) there are two in the village

By the way - have been fairly reliably informed that Mondello don't rent out helmets anymore - so you'll need your own!

For the benefit of us foreigners..

Where is Mondello Park?

and which is the nearest ferry port?

Nick

Mondello Park is about 25 miles SW of Dublin near Naas Co Kildare - it is relatively easily accessed by road with dual carriageway or motorway most of the route.

Portwise - you have both Dublin and Dun Laoghaire (often spelt Dun Laoire) (see ferry routes on map1). Dun Laoghaire may be the easiest for you as you aren't passing through the city. In terms of accommodation try looking at the http://www.theaa.com/getaway/hotels/hotels_home.jsp - the AA  website for decent places near Naas Co. Kildare or in Dublin itself (more expensive in every way).

Are you coming? Let us know when and Im sure someone can meet you at the port (the Irish Authorities have a phobia about erecting road signs)

In terms of getting used to the track you can either go to http://www.mondello.ie - www.mondello.ie or http://mrmci.com/track.asp - http://mrmci.com/track.asp  (see national track)

Numbers are still low for comfort (~16-17). Not sure if it is just a reluctance to fork the money in advance...

By next week we'll have to start really pushing for sign ups...

To work out at about 100 yoyos per person then we would need about 30

We have rented the national circuit (see dark section of pic [ignore D-numbers]). The international section will possibly be used by the PDC.

I have been round it a number of times (usually as a passenger in various racing cars). It can be fast! Very fast!

PDC is the Performance Driving Centre where for 200 yoyos (300 for advanced) you can get ~ 10 laps in a rover 25 Gti (5 with instructor driving you and 5 with you driving) and then about 10-15 laps in a single seater (rev limited (4k?)rover gti engine). It is good craic but you are released in 5-10 second intervals so you dont race [I have done it a couple of times with marshals and managed to get black flagged last time for racing!].
