Guys

I'm talking to a guy about getting these real carbon fibre roudels for the E39 bonnet and boot. The owner of the shop has said if there's enough interest in a group buy he'd do a discount.

Anyone else or has my sense of taste gone south for winter?

carbon firbe tat on a BM?

go to ur nearest halfords, go wander round the ripspeed section for as long as u can bear it

then go outside and look outside and look at the saxos and corsa's outside ( they are a standard featcher of halfords car parks i am sure)

if that does not restore ur sense of taste, cut up ur credit cards and dont buy anything untill the new year

but if u really do find the need to buy a pair i think they are fairly cheap on ebay, they seem to go for a lot less than the proper badges go for.

Ebay ones are carbon fibre copy not real carbon fibre.

As for Carbon Fibre tat it doesnt stop gruppeM or various others making airboxes out of em or hartge & hamann doing eyebrows & grills in it, ACSchnitzer doing bodykits,spoilers and interiors in it or indeed BMW themselves doing M3 CSL roofs and interiors in it-and none of that's available at Halfords either.

Will check on E34 sizes & see what I can do.

Quote As for Carbon Fibre tat it doesnt stop gruppeM or various others making airboxes out of em.....

point is they use carbon to save weight not as a patern

and weather the badges u buy are real or fake carbon it doesnt matter the 500g u might save is not going to have even the slightlest affect on ur cars performance

so the end result is u just have a badge which is so chav like it may as well be burberry.

have a thumb through a copy of max power or fast car and maybe u will be able to understand where i'm coming from

I don't suppose for 1 minute that any1 here thinks that a carbon fibre badge is gonna improve performance or provide a massive weight saving.

As for being so chav then thats up to you and what you think. You do seem to be an expert on it though so I'll leave you in peace with your copies of Max Power etc.

If BMW/ACS/et al wanted to just save weight on the various splitters,spoilers,roofs etc then they'd fit it n spray over it.........I seem to remember every1 drooling over how good the CF roof LOOKED.

If you don't want 1 fine,don't buy 1 just don't clog up the thread asking for people who may be interested.

OK fellow chavs I'm just waiting for confirmation on price but have the following info on sizes for you to check:

E39s-have both front & rear to fit, size 82mm front, 76mm rear
E34-have both front & rear to fit, sizes are 82mm front & rear.

For those of you with E28s the front size should be 82mm and rear should be the same but can someone check for me?

The black carbon fibre ones are available as are the following;

Black and silver real carbon fibre;

Black carbon fibre effect

Or for the real chavtastic fans;

Prices to follow asap.

Shame the black and carbon ones are only carbon affect otherwise I would have had a set. Only black or blue carbon for me. In my opinion the black and silver is just too much. A set of REAL carbon and whites can be had for about £30 on ebay (and yes they are REAL carbon).

Same company I believe so have a word!

Philip, get me the link if poss so I can go back to them. I just did a search on ebay and the only BMW roundel in carbon fibre I could find was a blue carbon fibre EFFECT badge at £8.99 +p&p each.

Carbon fibre in black is available in real carbon fibre or carbon-style. As is black and silver.

I think that they look very good, not chav in the slightest!

My main concern is some herbert nicking them off one of my beemers!

Three of my bm's are black so I reckon they would add a little bit of subtle aesthetic quality.

I can see how some would not agree, but that's the great thing about opinions, everyone's got one! Even if its wrong!!!

Just reread an old article on the Porsche GT3.........interestingly on normal Porsches the badge is enamel but on the GT3 its a sticker to save on weight!!!

I reckon they'll look fine on black. If worried about someone nicking them you could always add some superglue to rear when attaching them!!!!!!

Or wire the badges to the mains!!!

Yep for an e34.

I view & drove a fantastic 92 525 sport m5 lookalike shown below.

It looks great but drives PHENOMANALLY (not sure of spelling).

Although I loved my 525 which was recently murdered by a man in a van this drives totally different,not sure if its just because its manual or due to other mods-it has a strut brace,s-steel exhaust,hkl induction kit,sports suspension,lsd but owner doesnt think it has been chipped or remapped or anything but I am not so sure.(panel in the rear valance for towbar will be on the car when I get it).

Has bmw history up to 148k & has done 151k

Not as refined as my se but it goes like a bat out of hell & sticks to the road like nobodys business.

Only criticism is that the bumpers have faded a bit-any tips ?

I drove a 540 this week but there really is no comparison,car is fabulous-ooooh I am so excited ! (how childish is that)

Giving a deposit early next week & picking it up as soon as I am paid from ins co.

Stone - I'm in for a set of carbon and silver for £44.  Would postage for Ireland be much extra - I would imagine that it shouldn't be!

Thanks.

not too handy with a spray gun myself-I understood that you can buy covers which just clip on to your existing grille ?

I bought a set of grilles for my e39; popped off the old, popped on the new!  Cost about €50 through Richie in the Irish Region.

Find out if he can do a deal with the 6 of us. He must be able to give us some kind of discount. Just tell him we will direct anyone wanting them in the future his way.

If he can do it for 10 he can do it for 6.

Failing that just see what he will charge for the 6!

Does he do wheel centres in the carbon/silver?  If he does, what would they cost? (I want them for the centre of my ACS 3's!"

I'd be interested in the black carbon effect, but I'm after them for an E24, which may complicate things.
