A friend of mine has hit some financial difficulty and has to sell his beloved e39 523 Steptronic. He only bought it around April, and it's breaking his heart to get rid of it. Looks wise, it's the same as mine was originally; the pic here is of mine as it used to be, not his. I think €14k is in or around what he hoped to get.

Fey Carzone website is a good advertizing location as well, now taking private ads. €14k is probably a bit strong for the age and miles. €11-12k is probably more realistic I'm afraid. ------------- Now: BMW 523i SE '00, 318i SE - e91 '07, 325i Coupe '93. I'd say €12k for a private sale wouldn't be bad. I know i've put a fair few quid into mine, and would be very reluctant to sell unless I got a good price. It's painful to hear, but on a car like that the lack of leather is a
real downer for the average buyer... pity, but i'd say if he was

Very big money being mentioned here. 15 months ago I was able to source a 98 525TDS with 110k, full history, business pack, new turbo, cat etc. from a Nissan dealer for €11k after a couple of weeks negotiation, checking with garage that did engine work etc.. I wouldn't pay more than €10,500 to €11k for it, and I'm really being generous. No doubt he'll find a buyer for more, but you can get em for handy money these days if you shop a bit and do a bit of homework. And if you are prepared to pay trade you're laughing. Most main dealers don't want anything over 5 years old, so they shift them on sans warranty to the trade. Often the cars have a good history. But that's lost cos as the car bounces the trade, the milage gets a haircut before it appears on the forecourt. So if you go to BMW dealers, ask what they have trade, do your sums, leave a budget for contingency, you can get a steal. Like a 98 528i auto with 130k on the clock, 1 owner (Pat the Baker director if I recall), full BMW history, great spec including leather, phone, full climate, soggy front shocks but most other stuff replaced.. final price I got was €11k with no warranty. And that was March 04. Anyway, I'm going off the point here a bit. I would have thought €9k for a 98 example and around €7k for a 97 one. this is based on what lads are looking for and plus I have the latest copy of the "trade book" which lists trade in prices for cars. the problem is its a buyers market out there and not a sellers one. what we want for our cars and what we get are poles apart!!  ------------- |
