I currently own a 89 Highline suffering from the usual rot.  Any advice, budget figures for replacement of front wings and a full respray.  Car has covered 141000 miles with 3 owners, 55k in first year!  History to die for so now deserves to be put back to best condition possible.  It resides in the Cotswolds.

Any help gratefully recieved

Simon Clark

Hi Simon,

Front wings cost between 450 to 550 each, if you get the earlier type they are cheaper and still fit you just have to drill a hole in them for the side repeaters.  As for a respray, I should imagine that a good job will cost over 2000, bare metal etc.  The tome is in the preparation.  If you do get a respray I would advise to get the anti chip coating put on as well as it should help with stones chips.

Cheers

Dave

Hi,

Do you need to get the whole wing replaced? A lot of money to spend if you don't. I have had both of my front wings repaired by grafting in new metal - you need to have someone who is good and you are confident with. The guy who did mine is near Northampton, not too far from the Cotswolds and my 628 is in Banbury if you want to see the results.

Frankly, it's better to replace if you can afford to do it. Sheer peace of mind.

Previously, I did have metal grafted into the original wings, and a good job was done, but the repair lasted 6 years before coming up again. It was easier to replace and spray the whole, so both my wings were replaced.
