Subject: Howth Transport Museum Visit
Date Posted: 14-April-2005 at 07:31

As you may know the visit to the transport museum is scheduled for Sunday 1st May. The museum opens at 2pm and contains a collection of public and commercial vehicles (don't think they hold cars!) but is supposed to be a great trip.

I plan this to be a more family orientated event compared!

I have contacted the museum and hope to have finer details about this later/tomorrow but in the meantime:-
* who is planning on going?
* are we going to eat in the http://deerpark-hotel.ie/deerpark/restaurants.html - deerpark [four earls restaurant or palm tree bistro]
* there are also the http://deerpark-hotel.ie/deerpark/rhododendrons.html - rhodendron gardens where a nice walk can be had
* what about a round of golf or P&P? (see http://deerpark-hotel.ie/golf/rates.html - deerpark-hotel.ie/golf/rates.html ) [remember though I haven't held a golf club in 20 years!] [hmmm, the thought of tearing down some of the fairways in a golf buggy ]. Anyway, if golf is a runner, who wants it (so I can pre book for you) and do you want it before or after the museum visit?

Further info about the museum from http://www.nationaltransportmuseum.org - www.nationaltransportmuseum.org

I might just and that would mean leaving my car behind and take the other car that I have to keep modding with the latest in car entertainment for the little ones Might be nice to treat them to a bit of grub also.

Why, do you not normally feed them  I suppose with all of that expense on your baby (Bimmer) you have to make some cut backs. It's all about getting your priorities right.

Is the club coming out to Howth to visit me??

Considering the transport museum is about three minutes from my house and I've never been I'll be along for a look.

There are nicer places in Howth that the Deerpark to eat though.

There's the

1) restaurant in the Bloody Stream (pub in the train station),

2) Deep, restaurant on the west pier (booking prob needed but nice)

3) Aqua at the end of the west pier (not cheap)

4) Cafe Ciara at the end of the sea front, chipper you can sit down in, it's quite nice

5) Beshoffs - take away chipper

7) Abbey Tavern, pub grub

8) Big Blue, nice family restaurant, recommended

9) Ella, in the middle of the village, restaurant / wine bar. Nice for dinner.

I hope this helps.

If emergency facilities are required for injured / dirty children etc I can probably oblige!

Just after spotting that the 1st is a Sunday and the 2nd is a bank holiday and on the 3rd I have to be at the airport.  Could end up making a weekend of it!  Thankfully, there are no mini-Feys so it really could be a plan.  However, where's Howth???

Howth is the eastmost part of Dublin on the nortsoide.

If you head out from the city past busaras just keep going straight and it is about 12 or 15 miles. There used to be (presumably still is) a large factory just opposite it

Yep that big cement works is still there

BTW anyone coming from the M50 should just keep going straight through all the roundabouts and juctions into (Baldoyle), The Road curves to the left (Nasty speed ramps) then you'll pick up the signs for Howth - very simple.

The map above sort of takes you off towards Portmarnock but its not necessary unless you want the scenic drive in which case go into Malahide and follow the coast road all the way round.  Hopefully everyone is suitably confused now

Honestly can't remember the name of it - probably too intoxicated going to or from pubs / restaurants or too busy watching for speed traps which there can be a lot of around Malahide, Portmarnock and Howth so watch the speed lads.

Easy targets around these parts and big boy racer brigade which can draw a lot of unwanted attention.

1. are people who are eating (in the Big Blue place) doing so before or after the museum? I might leave eating till after!
2. if before, what time are you going to it?
3. the museum opens at 2pm so if everyone is there by then. I guess any convoy leaving Halfrauds would need to leave about 1:30.

Essential camoflauge in case you accidentally head thru darndale....

Oh and don't forget the blue washer jet LED's and neon-lit undercarraige...

though a couple of extra nights standing on the street corner looking suspicious got me enough money to buy a 635csi.

Anyway, the museum is at the castle which is also @ on the drive to Deerpark Golf Club. If you drive through Sutton X past superquinn towards Howth just keep going until you see a large factory on your left - its opposite that! I presume it is also signposted.

Looked like a nice day out - nice motors around.  Who was the 98 E36 keeper and what was it,  Looks very clean although not sure about the growth hanging out the back of it.  Pity I missed it.

No buddy,...you've lost it!

The sound of your car and simatics rolling through howth on the way back was tasty. The two exhausts turned a few heads.

Topazman - don't worry cos everyone thinks I'm driving a 318is with all the kit - which suits me fine. Anyway I'm sure there'll be no problems distinguishing your netx motor (M Power post)

That 98 is a smart car, I wasn't sure as there wasn't a clear pic of it to see stance and the seats, the exhaust was what threw me.

Thats a great colour on the E36. Looked like a serious discussion at one stage about your boot Ritche?

M3 badges... No!

M badge fine when you have a M kit as far as I'm concerned.

Ditto that Ken...

I don't see why people hate the M badge so much. I'd accept several beatings with a hot poker if I had the 3 on it but I don't!

BMW put an M badge on M-tech cars

Didn't put one on the outside of mine - except for the rims.
Inside however = dash, shift, seats , sills and most importantly under the bonnet where it really matters

But agree on the M3 badges on non motorsport cars, M kit is fair enough

Saw a Mini One yesterday with an M badge on it, thought it looked ridiculous.Mind you if BMW were to make an official Mini M it could be very interesting.
