Over the last day or so whenever I get in to the car.."bong" and "CHECK PARK LIGHT" appears on the dash.

I have recently had it serviced by a recomended German Prestige Car specialist (he only had Beemers & Mercs in his garage!) and he said the computer only brought up the speed sensor issue (see previous posts).

We checked the parking lights & all works fine but I still have the message on the dash

After we had checked the lights we working his 2nd comment was interesting: "These computers are too clever"

Anyone had a similar issue : with the car not the mechanic ;-) or does anyone know how to sort it?

Hi crisis, two idea's for you one is do you have the right wattage bulbs in as that can cause the system to have a bad day and secondly could be the check control module(ccm).

I had this problem on my e34 525i kept coming up licence plate light even though they were working perfectly!!!

Changed the CCM and all was well

Well worth a try.

Welcome to the forum

I bought my CCM from cooks ferry engineering in enfield.

I got a 2nd hand one as a new one is expensive and wasn't sure if it was that anyway!

Changing it is easy lift the bonnet, open the box on the left where the fuses are and there is a long black box looks a bit like a VHS marked CCM take it into them and they will match it up " BINGO!"

Where are you based? as you can probably get it at any decent bmw breakers.

Also http://www.bmwcarclubforum.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=16280&PN=1 - This Thread suggests that not all new bulbs are the same.  Old bulbs will certainly change resistance as they age.

As it is a cheaper option, I would try new bulbs from the dealer first.

I had the same text display on my screen, "CHECK PARK LIGHT", I then took out the left and right dipped headlight bulbs to find that one of them was of incorrect wattage, 4W.  Make sure you check your manual in the maintenance section what the correct voltage and wattage should be.

I change mine to the correct ones, 5V-10W, and the display fault has gone.
