Yep, just as one thread comes to an end about M3's at the Ring nears an end, another starts

Daniel from www.s14.de has set a date for a meet on the fully open weekend of June 25th and 26th .
The track is open on....

Fri 24th from 2.15 pm to 7.30 pm
Sat 25th from 8.00 am to 7.30 pm
Sun 26th from 10.15am to 7.30 pm
Mon 27th from 1.00 pm to 7.30 pm

Last years meet had over 100 E30 M3's in attendance over both days and I'm pretty sure everybody had a good time. So start thinking about it and get planning.

Nooooo I guessed it would be this date, one of the few dates this year where I couldn't get time off work :-(

Here is a photo of us setting off last year, I was hoping for a reunion this year, sadly it's not to be, I will be at the Ring this year, hopefully in July and September.

Have a great time those of you lucky enough to be going. If anyone is reading this and thinking about going just do it, it's a fantastic event.

I have already booked the time off work and my channel crossing has been booked using the seacat at 10am on the Thursday for a leisurely drive through Belgium.

I had a great time last year and would be great to beat the 100 or so cars that turned up last year. Daniel needs to find a larger area for us to congragate as Manthey Racing would only accommodate 100 or so cars.

A few pics from last year

I got £162 return on Seafrance for early Friday crossing returning on Tuesday and that is for tow car (528i Touring) & trailer with the M3 on  it. If you are a Car Club memeber you  get a discout but you will need to phone them as the website is NOT geared up for such discount.

Dave,

Seafrance number 0870 240 8070 it is also in the back of the club mag (Feb/Mar) issue along with the promotion code you need to use.

The reason for the trailer is that Gill's back suffers badly on the drive there and back. The Belgium roads are the worse offenders. The big comfort seats will help cushion the ride.

Cheers

I was thinking the Zur-Burg Hotel as Kevin says it's nice, plus it is also in the middle of Nurburg village and within walking distance to the Pistenklause.

I think 215DMX, Dave G and maybe Uwe are looking to book somewhere. Shall we all go for the Zur-Burg ?

This sounds like great fun and would be very tempted to come but I am a track day virgin and not sure if it would be prudent to do some track days in good old blighty first before venturing onto the ring. May try and get a friend on board who also has an E30 M3 and track experience.

Also, may have the same problems convincing my nearest and dearest, maybe DAWIEM3 can organise some sort of great-escape committee, he seems to be willing. I thought about a life-size cut out of myself with playback messages that say "yes dear" every 10 minutes - that might just work.

If you checked out my cam posting you will know I will be getting these checked and the whole car given a complete check over as well, but I presume certain spares whould be essential to take with you on such an adventure.

If things work out it would be great to meet you guys.

Please be frank about track day experience as I would value your comments very much.

Kevin

DAWIE, all sorted now!
But I like the the thing with the memory loss

RattusM3, who says you need to go like a lunatic when driving on track? Take it easy, especially on the Ring!!! I am sure you can have plenty of passenger laps to make your mind up to drive yourslef or not.
The Ring is nothing like you have seen before I can assure you this!
And nobody here will call you coward when taking your time on the Ring.

Uwe,

Great news to know you managed to broker a deal, and are going.

RattusM3,

Take your time at the ring, enjoy the company, and lap when you want to at your pace. There is nothing to prove to anyone as we all started somewhere and give the Ring the utmost respect. No a La clarkson laps on the first lap.

Come along, you know you want to.

I thought you'd try and change your plans and go Uwe . Nice work

RattusM3. Just going to the Ring in your car is more than a lot of people would do with their cars . Just remember the Ring is a public toll road and not NOT a race track . Drive like you would on the road and there won't be a problem.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

Hope I did not give too wrong an impression, I think I am more worried about track protocol rather than how fast I should be trying to get round one on my first outing but I am sure you fine gentleman if I asked would show me the ropes.

Also as stated its also about enjoying the occasion with like minded people.

Besides trying to prove something to veterans and then crashing your car in the process is not what I call very clever, believe you me.

You can believe me/us. The RING is like nothing you have seen before. You will see. There is not much room for errors, and if things go wrong they go wrong with 120mph+ and trees all around you.
Take it easy, I do as well!

Mmmm, I think I'm starting to get the picture.

Might buy a volvo then and try that first.

On a more serious note, I appretiate your words of caution and emphasis that the ring should NOT be treated as some sort of track day outing, and when the time comes take it easy I will - HONEST

Well you got to start somewhere

Will definately know within the next 2-3 weeks, looks like I will need to do those jobs I promised around the house to earn those brownie points afterall.

Will check out the ferry and hotels already mentioned on this thread but I guess I need to be sort of quick about it.

Just checked some ticket prices for ferries, check out www.scferrybookings.co.uk/hoverspeed/direct

23/6/05 10am outbound - 28/6/05 12.45pm return on Seacat with return saver for 1 or 2 adults was quoted at £115.64 - seemed reasonable. Now just need to check out the hotels, or bring along some camping gear.

Yep, looks like I am going, will be in convoy, probably about 4 of us all bringing our own cars (all e30 M3s). Thought about hotels but after talking to friend decided to go for the camping option instead.

Did send some emails to hotels initially but similar problem as 215m3 so camping it is. Saying that not much info (unless you speak german) regarding campsites there, only one mentioned is Mullenbach?
Not sure if you have to pre-book or you can just turn up - any info would be helpful.

Getting ferry booked through this website of all places, Dover - Calais return £69

215m3 - hope you get your accommodation sorted soon and hope to meet up with you all.

Kevin,

Good news. Glad you are able to make it. You won`t believe seeing 130+ E30 M3`s all gathered togather at one point. Every available option and modification, wheels, colour, some track toys, and best of all - Top company, irrespective of what language you speak.

Take lots of film or memory sticks as you will need it.

Kevin. I'm guessing this is the site you have already seen ? www.camping-am-nuerburgring.de

At 25 Euro per night for a cheap single hotel room within the Ring , you've got to love camping to want to go that route

I've used this place before and apart from it not being in Nurburg village, it's otherwise very nice , cheap and the owners are very helpful and speak very good English. http://www.pension-muehlenhardt.de/

Flex the credit card and join in Mike

There's an Oldtimer meet on the GP track for that weekend, so things may be a little busier and hotels booked-up earlier. Getting a single room some place local is usually the biggest problem if you leave it late. Try the place I listed in my last post. They are within the track and about 2 miles from Nurburg village . I've stayed there a few times and I've always been more than happy with the service, rooms and with how helpful Edgar the owner is to his guests. That place is also about as cheap as they get.

Posted By: rattusM3

Yep, that's the one BMG.

But will check out the hotel you mentioned first and if places still available will consult with the others - like you said 25 Euros per night is very good. Thanks for the info.

Yes Dave, can't wait - bigger flash card is in order I think.

mmmm this could be tight..

Potential weekend looks like this

Friday Goodwood  - Festival of Speed

Saturday Paris - Wedding

Sunday Nurburgring  - first "track" experience

Does anyone know how long from Paris to the ring... at the limit?(Speed limit not the rev limit!!)

It sounds like something i shouldn't miss.

Thanks Piers and Uwe for the distance / warning.

Still sounds like something that needs to be done and a great excuse to do my first trackday here in the UK before i go.

See y'all on the sunday!

Hi Martin,

Might be a blessing, try this BMW website instead - go to the events page and you will see a thread to book your ferry here, ended up being the cheapest I can find.

Sorry, forgot to mention where I am finally booking from.

Re: Pension Mulenhardt, Edgar is indeed a nice chap, however, this year he has decided that certain 'fully open Ring w/e ' he will only accept bookings from people staying 4 nights. Which is a bit of a pain. I tried to book for the S14.de meet w/e at Easter but he was having none of it despite me being one of his regulars. I have had to find lodgings elsewhere for every one of my remaining 2005 trips. By all means give him a try but I think the fact that a big race meeting is taking place will mean he can effectively charge the four nights even if people only stay 2 or 3.

Been doing just that Dave. Fitted ( well ok, Jake did all the work while I didn't do much ) a pair of anti roll bars yesterday. Also have some new control arms coming and some Powerflex bushes for the arms.Handling is now much improved and I'm keen to try it out on the track.

I owe Jake a huge amount of beer for the roll bars and the fitting of. You know if you can make it to the Ring for the meet, then you are more than welcome to do some lapping in the much improved 'red shed'

Dave. I have a couple of bits for you in my car. Do you need them ASAP, or will when I collect some bits from you suffice ?

I went for the Blue Racing Dynamics (New style E30 M3)
22mm front, solid bar, 3 position adjustable and 19mm rear, solid, 2 position.

The parts for the brake kit didn't arrive, plus the time spent on my car meant we didn't get to try anything out sadly.

I'm not exactly what the deal is with Racing Dynamics. But I think their old,or other kit, is
22mm front, solid, 3 position and 16mm rear, solid, 2 position. Hopefully Jake will see this and jump in a ste the record straight.

After over-running the engines, slamming brakes and burning tyres ....are the cars still roadworthy enough to drive back without frightening humble road-users on the way ?

If you drive like a **** for 4 days, you'll probably kill yourself at the Ring and not have to worry about getting the car home . Drive like at any UK track day and there's no probs .

I did over 70 laps in the M3 over the Easter weekend and it is just fine. A careful check over by a specialist got a thumbs up so just changed the Oil and filters then did Cadwell Park a couple of weeks ago.

There were 8 british E30 M3's that turned up at the S14 meet last year, how mant do we have this year? I don't think the Manthey Racing meeting point of last year will be large enough.

Uwe has Daniel mentioned on s14.motorsport where the meeting point is this year? I've also emailed him and will let you know when i get a reply.

I'm serious , ask Jake. I thought he had two very nice double rooms built on the side of his house to let out in peak season . I don't remember anyone staying in his house as such or anywhere else. And there was only parking for 3-4 cars .....maybe they'll let us use the BMW test center
I get my 'old' room with my car parked right outside the window anyway

OK, just spoken to the Landlord and sorted/confirmed bookings.
Double room booked for myself and a mate from Germany
Double room booked for Toby and SteveM
Single room for BMG
And 215DMX has done a booking himself.

That makes this Hotel fully booked. If you need a room let me know as the Landlord may be able to get you a room nearby.
