Does anyone know how big a job to change and at what cost?  My E30 M3 has started missing, I had it into a specialist BM independent yesterday who has checked everything and seems to think the air flow meter is faulty.  Setting off to Nurburgring on Thurs aft so any response would be appreciated asap!

Thanks

I have a spare AFM if you need one. It's simple enough to fit. PM me if you want it and make me an offer.

Don't know where you are but I have one in the store room at Bexleys if that helps... give me a call tomorrow or phone Bexley motorsport a ring direct and tell them you are after Tom's AFM.

Thanks Tom,

I know it's not an E30, and probably not at all relevant, but just out of interest...

Mine had to be replaced on my E46 M3 after just a week, under warranty thankfully.  Wasn't a good start but as I'd already had another E46 M3 without a single problem I knew it wasn't a sign of things to come - and it hasn't been.

Be careful about spending your money!!! A garage diagnosed the MAFS (mass air flow sensor) as faulty on my E30 iS after checking the fault codes in the EEC. I replaced it using a Eurocarparts item.

The fault was however that the duct from the MAFS to the manifold was split, causing air to leak in behine the sensor and messing up the air/fuel mix. Would be worth double checking everywhere is leak tight. A £15 duct would have cured my problem!

(Take it all apart to check, the split had happened when the duct stretched as the engine moves, v. hard to spot).

I can only second that! Don't throw money on it without proof. If it's an temp sensor for a tenner I would give it a try, but not an AFM just in case.

After organising with Toby (215m3) to send me his spare AFM before I leave for Germany tomorrow I read the post from David321 about the duct from the AFM so I thought it worth having a quick look at.  Only 2 jubilee clips to undo then I removed and inspected.  All seemed fine until I flexed the duct about a bit and lo and behold there is a small crack underneath it.  I superglued it together and ordered the part (£16) from my local dealer ready for 8.30 in the morning.

I then went out in the car and it runs perfect!  And the beauty of the story is I have sorted the misfire for £16 (thanks David321) and Toby is coming down from Scotland soon to build me a patio out of decking!

Can't be bad....thanks to all the people that replied and hopefully I might bump into some of you at the "ring" this weekend.
