So the time has come.  The car has full BMWSH apart from the oil service done by the dealer (nonbmw) so the big question is...  Do I use the main dealer or a specialist?

My local main dealer has quoted £611 all up.  I've not called a specialist yet.

What does the panel think?

Had an inspection one on mine recently.  Got a specialist to do it and was charged £405. 

You have to offset what you'd save by using a specialist against a possible lower resale value if you decide to sell the car and it doesn't have a full BMWSH.  Continuity of a BMW warranty might also be an issue to consider.  Many enthusiasts recognise that a full BMWSH does not necessarily mean that the car has been well looked after.  It should do, but it does't always.  It depends how good the dealer is and how many M cars they see.  Likewise people recognise that a good specialist who regularly services M cars is probably as good, if not better, than a main dealer.

What sort of mileage does the car have and how long do you plan on keeping it?  If it's high miles and you plan on keeping it I'd suggest a good specialist.  Use the money you save to treat the car to a few goodies.

Can anybody recommend an M3 specialist in either the Norwich or M3/M25 area?  I think I'll check out the specialist route.

BTW Northernman, thanks for the info.  It's got about 63k on it, and I don't yet know how long I intend to keep it -- if business is good this year I might decide to get an M5 or (sorry) a 996.

I doubt the main dealer history will recoup what I spend extra on it in resale.

Andy, I wouldnt use a dealer unless warranty is in place. A good M power specialist would be my option.

Not sure about distances but the faves seem to be Munich Legends or Bexleys Motorworks. Cooks Ferry are meant to be good.

I personally use BMWorx but they're up in Aylesbury.
