Hi all, im in a bit of a mess. Im hoping someone has some ideas... The battery on my E34 has completly died, so much so that i cant get into the car (no power for central locking) I dont think i put the dead lock in, but i cant honestly remember. Is there any way into the car without breaking the window? Any help appreciated. ------------- e34 525i Sport |

I suppose turning the key in the lock doesn't do anything?
Might sound like an obvious suggestion, but works on E30's (hard to turn key, as you are turning against the solonoid). There is a way to release the bonnet manually using a straightened coat
hanger somewhere through the front grill. Unfortunately I do not know
the exact position, perhaps a local mechanic might better advise you. I had a look at the bonnet catch on my car and its between the central grill and headlight on the pasenger side. |

Thanks miles, that did the trick!! :D opening the bonnet wouldnt of helped much as the battery is under the back seat. Thanks for all your help guys, i hope it doesnt go dead again. I think a wire from the CD player was shorting and draining all the power. ------------- e34 525i Sport |

i see. its under the bonnet in mine. being an e34 i thought it might be the same. i wouldnt have suggested it otherwise. |

Mine is under the rear seat, but i also have aircon so that could explain it ? -------------

I guess the battery space could be taken with aircon... if your aircon resides here -  I know where i'd rather have the battery :) |

My battery can be found under the seat too and i've no air con. It's a 91' car. Dis they just put them where they could be bothered or is there a logical reason. ------------- loud, proud and skint!!! |

Yes two aircon pipes would get in the way, another reason they put the battery under the rear seat is to stop heat soak from the engine. Miles -------------

No aircon here and its under the seat. Prehaps they changed the position when they changed engines? I've got the M50 in mine, could that be why? ------------- e34 525i Sport |

Friday last, I left my lights on 10 hours later, (Yeah I work too long!!!!) when I opened the door (Only my door worked - the central locking didn't) I was of course able to get at the battery and get a jump-lead on it. She kicked over 1st try....what do you expect, it's a BM of only 17 years young so I wouln't expect anything else Anyway, the battery had drained so much it killed the radio memory and the dashboard clock had stopped too....but my door still worked (That's my point).
