Hi, just a quick note to introduce myself as I have just registered.

Owned a number of BMW's and currently have the following:

04 E46 M3 Convertible, Phoenix/Kiwi, SMGII, SatNavPro/TV, 19s, heated bums, hifi upgrade, 6 disc, etc.  This is my second E46 M3, having had a manual Coupe beforehand.

54 E46 320d (the wifes actually) that does a lot more mpg

Anyway just wanted to say hello.  Live in North Tyneside.

Yes, here are a few pictures.  I'm waiting for some better weather to hopefully get some taken in a better location than on the industrial estate on which these were!

Hi, Coasting. Don't I know you from somewhere?

Suppose I should go introduce myself in the correct part of the forum now...

You do indeed Sayer!  Great to see you here too.

Get that lovely car of yours on the site because I maintain it is still one of the best original examples I have ever seen.

I do miss the rear lines of the Coupe - you're right about the lines, they just got the flow of them so right.

The convertible should have had the same boot lid and there was no real reason for them not to do it, but you can actually change them over or add a very subtle variant of the Coupe spoiler.

Oddly though, it is the Imola red trim of my old model that I miss more than anything.  It just felt very special whereas the Kiwi just, well, is just a bit bland - but the fact is there isn't much else to match the Phoenix exterior other than black for a contrast (although I have actually seen someone put Laguna Seca Blue trim inside a Phoenix Coupe!!).

Thanks for the interest and comments!

See, in the E30 you're right, but look inside an E46 M3 with black leather...it is pitch black.  Utterly pitch black.  The headlining and dash trim, combined with the shade of leather, really does make it a very very dark interior on the E46.

I bet if you were to park up alongside one in yours you'd see exactly what I meant.   You could lose a button in the E46 with black leather...and you'll never ever find it...

this is true, i think the only reason the e30 isn't too dark inside with black leather and black headlining is there is a hell of alot of glass on it, if you look closley all the pillars are quite slim and the front and rear screen are huge in comparison with later models, same goes for the side windows.

oh well, the advantages of having the e30...god i love it

Not surprised, it is such a classic shape and I think the E30 has stood the test of time better than the E36 (and probably better than the E46 will do in 5-7 years time too, or less even).

The paintwork on yours looks very smart - is it the original coat do you know?

yes it is, i bought it from simon325isport who is on this forum and also the e30zone. he now has a white e30 m3.

i couldn't believe the quality of it when i went to view it(4.5 hours away), it's a beaut. yours ain't bad either.

i aggree with you, the e30 is definatly the calssic shape and will probably share the same accolade as the good old six series, it has lots of grunt, style and is built like a brick sh@t house, good combination.

AndyS

The M635CSi looks fabulous - I've been reading your spot on the NE January newsletter.

The 6 holds a special place in my heart because it was a car I used to see every day when I was 13-16 years old.

My parents lived near to a guy who owned a white edition, on an F plate too.  He used to drive past the house at exactly the same times every day and I'd sit on our wall just to be able to drool at it and listen to it growling.

I often wonder what happened to it because it was very much his pride and joy.  He also had an old 'Morse' Jaguar.  He had very nice taste in cars come to think of it.

Look forward to seeing your M a bit closer up a some time in the future.

It isn't actually an "M" 24 valve model, it's an even rarer Motorsport Edition.

From what I can gather, they were a limited "run-out" model that had most of the choice options thrown at them as standard such as lsd, wheelarch spats, sports suspension (some reckon it's the M6 setup), sports seats, M-Tech wheel etc. Engine-wise it's standard 220bhp 12 valve. Still fast enough mind! It's colour (Misano Red) kinda sticks out a bit (****** camera van!) so discretion is required.

Will we be seeing you at the next meeting at Seaton Burn 2nd March?

Mtec530 do you have any details on the M3 in Teeside? Do they have a website.... I couldn't find anything under the name?

p.s) As Sammi and I are on holiday in Thailand we won't be able to make the next meet! Look forward to reading the newsletter....

Thanks - bit unsure about doing a circuit until I get a spare set of wheels/tyres for the car.   Not that thrilled about the thought of damaging the 19's and tearing the tyres off them through over-enthusiasm!

On another subject - the 2 x 3-series that are mentioned in the posts earlier in this thread...

How can they describe the red one as an M3 lookalike!

It is positively VILE!!!!!!!!!!

I agree totally on the REd "M3 lookalike" its absolute junk. they say you can over do it and this is one "OVERDONE" car.

Well I might turn out, but not to take the car on track - perhaps just for "initial observation"!!!

It's not a matter of wanting to hit a kerb or come off the track though is it...it's a matter of just happening to do so.....!

I fancy a track car project at some point in the future (probably a pre-built and ready to run one) so my track exploits might have to wait until then!  I'm just too wary about doing this type of thing in my main car!

If you get yourself along for "initial observation" you will kick yourself for not having a go

My 1st.(and only so far!!) track day was Croft last year, had my m3 best part of 4yrs always wanted to do it but never did.
Joined the car club last year so I could (got to be a member), spoke to Nick who organiser's it and he put me totaly at ease It's a better driving day with an open pit lane he said, me totaly confused????

They have lots of instructors on hand, you can go as fast or as slow as you wish, and the best bit is on and off track when you want to, as long as no more than 20 cars are on track, they let you on, you decide when you come off, all the guys are fantastic last year I think there was 15 1st timers. One of the best days I have ever had.
Its not a race, you decide how fast/how much you push your car, catch you on a meet and tell you more

Lovely car coasting. I have to admit I prefered the colour of your old coupe, but the interior of the cab is a lot nicer.

AndyS. Very nice car. The 6 looks superb in Red. A hugely underated colour in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind trying a croft this year, although I doubt I'll have the cash. Also I think my 328's suspension will be a bit soft for the track.
